Having just attended the USACi western finals in Kelowna, it was intersting to see what was good about a big show like that and what could have been better. There were 35ish SQ cars there I believe and a few demo cars althoug not too many. What I would have liked to have seen were more SQ-oriented demo cars and not just flashy boom demo cars. Virtually every manf. has one of those. Nice to look at the installs of swoopy painted fiberglass, neon and video screens but I could care less to hear what they sound like. Somewhat similar to that, the RPM Magnum is a sweet ride to look at but I don't much care to listen to it either. Regardless, demo cars are always great eye catches. There were some really nice customer cars at the Kelowna show too although I didn't listen to any of them. I dunno if the owners were willing to give a listen but I also didn't ask. I remember at the Boyz Audio show in 2003 they had some nice customer cars on display and the Karz Altima there to listen too which was nice.
I'm just thinking back to the old day of the shows I went to in the early 90's and what made them exciting to go to. One was the number of competitors cars to look at. The variety is what makes it so interesting. Variety in gear used and how it's installed. Fancy car audio was also still a relatively new thing back then too so not to many knew about it and it was more popular then but now 15-20 years later, people aren't so jazzed about it. BUT perhaps because the SPL thing has flourished and overgrown SQ for the past 5+ years, perhaps now SQ can make a comeback and by hyping through the media, etc. what a good sounding car can look and sound like might be interesting now to people. The old days also had more people showing off their cars by having them open and usually the system playing, although not cranked up. Just my observations.

I been to 2 out of 4 of Tim's show this year. I also went to Ralph's at Tradex and AXIS just last weekend....... I was extremely dissapointed at both shows! Actually Tim's was the most organized.....
I feel pretty much the same with all those useless visual demo cars or SUVs....... I guess they just have no idea what good sound is..... The best demo car that I have listen to is the KARZ's Nissen Altima I heard it right after it got back from the Vegas Show. It was tweaked by the guys at Focals! now that car has a nice soundstage....... atleast in the driver's seat!

personally with the sport growing as quickly as it is i think theres a need for both large and smaller frequent shows.
Many newbies (including) myself were intimidated coming into the scene even for a smaller show.
I think if my first was a large show like the one put on by car audio in kelowna i would have been a bit overwhelmed.
If you ask me smaller shows are more for tuning, and trial and error to get dialed in for the larger shows. Each type has their place. Without smaller shows the larger ones wouldnt be as meaningful and vice versa

I've seen payouts from the entry fees.
Lets just say class A had 10 entries @ $ 50 a car there would be $ 500 to divide up between 1st , 2nd and 3rd
Say $ 300 1st
$ 150 2nd
$ 50 3rd

How many classes did you have Dave? I am guessing more than one, so that's $1750 times what 5 classes for SQ and how many for SPL 10 or so? Come on Dave $26,250 is chicken scratch compared to your Crest budget!

When you orginize an event it can be part of your promotions.
Promotions don't make the money...but they bring you customers that will spend money.
Just gotta get their intrest and get them in the door.

Maybe combining power class might be a good idea.

cobining classes does one thing, p!ss off people. you drive 1000k to get to a show only to have to compete in a class higher thatn you usually should and get you a$$ handed to you, great way to promote the show. our show was designed to do one thing, bring attention to people that would have otherwise not known waht sound off are all about. that why it was in a very public location, the biggest mall in kelowna. our show wasnt designed to be a big fest. in fact i asked james not to mention all day long, just at the end. we didnt do it to make money, it was done for tims shop, my shop, future shop, visions, and so on. people at shows want swag, and big trophies, our trophies were almost 4g's. we have done our part now its time for the joes of the world to step up and do theirs and not just promote in the yellow pages, perhaps a more thought out and calculated risk would be more beneficial to you. not trying to pick on you joe but your contribution to the car audio industry has been very self serving when what we need is guys that have been around a long time(like you) to promote what we all do and not just ourdselves. we are on the verge of something really great happening here in western canada(sq making a comeback which benefits the tims,joes and daves of the world) and we need to all step up to make it happen
