Hello and Need Advice
Hey Guys
I am new to car audio setup etc. I have owned a huge range of head units from my old rides but just got my hands on a new Sony CDX-GT640UI thanks to a warranty replacement via Future Shop. I have an old Alpine V12 Expert Model MRV-1005. I have an old Kenwood Woofer in a Bass Experts box I purchased from Future Shop for dirt cheap. Its and closed box btw. My question is what would be the best settings on my head unit and my Alpine Amp to make sure I don't have the wrong frequencies leaking into my Woofer.
here is the pdf for my Alpine 1005

I know my Sony head unit has a Low pass filter and a high pass filter as well.
Thanks in advance.
ps. I only have the 2 channel amp powering the sub via bridged.

Hello HTH
So on my LowPass Filter on my Sony Deck i should set that to 85khz then on my Alpine Amp set the LP to 85Khz as well? What should the crossover on my amp be?
2nd question is what should I set the HighPass Filter on my deck?
Thanks

If you are driving your mids and highs off the deck don't worry about the Xover settings in the deck for now......just set the Low Pass Filter (LPF) on the amp for around 80-90hz for now, you should be fine until you start adding more toys.....

Big Red Thanks for the info.
I used a tutorial online to set the gain for my woofer. I have an old Kenwood which probably came out Mid 90's. I determined the probably RMS power and set my Amp Gain to match using a Digital Multimeter.
I set all my head unit settings to flat with only LPF at 80hz and ran a 50hz tone with volume at 75% of capacity. I even turned down the Parametric EQ the Alpine V12 had when setting.
I set the gain and then turned on any type of volume and sound enhancements.
Make sense?
Thanks

uhhh, see the one thing I've never figured out when using your dmm to set your gains is that you're setting everything to 0 on the deck to tune for the right voltage, which makes perfect sense, but then after you find the volts you want you change everything on the deck, which changes the voltage reading. I've also heard that this isn't the best way to do things the you should really use a meter and clamp or an o scope, but if you are gonna do it this way I'd say you set your deck the way you want and then tune the amp.
I will say though, I used this and thought I was getting 1200 watts, then I got someone to help me tune it with a clamp and it turned out I was producing some 500 watts
