Question:

Would you hire someone with well over 18 years exp and with OUT MECP??????

Pioneer Guy 04-27-2005 10:52 PM

If I ran an install shop, yes I would.

The best installers I worked with over my 10+ years in retail were NOT MECP certified.

Dereck Waller 04-28-2005 08:27 AM

I'll hire you Claudio!

Team Shadow 04-28-2005 08:44 AM

that depends on the shop. only if his references are good. call em up and find out. is this guy from somewhere foriegn or is he a well known installer.

he might have bad habits and you have to retrain him to your way of thinking. if he is a seasoned installer, you might butt heads with him or not. can you take him in an arm wrestle.

id say yes to this question but only if his installion experience is proven or can be traced.

Regarding MECP - IMO it is not necessary for anyone over 10 years experience and a good asset for anyone with under 5 years experience.

Not so much solely because of the experience itself but moreso that 10 years ago MECP was new and nobody had it and now none of the dinosaurs (me included) could give a rats ass to get it quite honestly.

However, guys with under 5 years should see it as some sort of quasi legitimate certification and should carry it.

BUT this does not mean that I would not hire someone who was maybe a noob but has enthusiasm and isn't a moron. Amazingly - those are tough prerequisites to achieve...

Check around with people he has worked with -- MECP is good, but not essential -- some of the best installers around have NOT done it.

Claudio Piccolo 04-28-2005 09:12 PM

hahaha. That is what I thought.

I agree that Certification would be a GOOD thing...BUT as of today there is very little to no weight behind MECP.

But now a few more question:
Mike, you are not at V's??
Shaugn: I do not think you would pay for the move out
Dereck: where are you working now.

And thanks for the "love" guys
