getting your foot in the door is hard. whos gonna trust you with a 50 000 car when all you have is your word. Defro is right when he says that it is better to get your foot in the door and save your 6 g's for tools. but getting your foot in the door is not easy. i applied to shop after shop and no results, i mean 30-40 accross 2 provinces. who would take a gamble on someone that didnt have shop experience. first thing they asked, do you do alarms. can you do do remote starters. so of course i didnt. still dont. but after going to MD i had a job offered to me while i was there just about to finish. bosses looked for me. And now im employed. Its an investemet. sure experience is just as good. but you dont go to MD to learn experience. you go to learn theory . the basics. the underlying fundamentals that cannot be taught by someone that doesnt know them. They do cut the wood for you, but not because they do the work for you. its so that you dont slice your fingers off on a saw youve never used before. seen it happen... finger came right off at the tip. so they are use caution. you will not be an excellent installer but it will prove that you are dedicated and that you know the fundametals that is needed to install in todays complex vehicles.
MD is a preference.

would you trust your install to a guy that says that he has 20 years experience or a guy that can prove it. well with a certificate you can prove that you have the know how and dedcation. experience can be proven. ask any installer if he would trust a kid fresh out of high school or fresh out of MD. the experienced installer can get a job and at least can get an interview and prove his knowledge. but if you dont have that, what can you prove?... that you like car audio and that you sort of can install. You cant put a md graduate against an experienced installer and see who knows more.

I went and it has made me who i am today. Just ask on any forum if any graduate found it easier to get a job before or after attending. youll get the same response each time. it is easier to get your foot in the door with the knowledge youll get from MD.

Dave MAC is right also. it is an excellent place to go learn the trade especially if no one will give you the chance. call up every store in your area research it. ask if they would hire you without experience and then ask them if you had MECP certification from mobile dynamcis, would the hire. As plai nand simply. " I've been thinking of taking the course at MD...would you hire me if i once i go there?" see what results you get. post it on here. but cold calling will get you results in your area.

no big deal. he wants an opiinion. and in toronto they have to be certified thru the govt to do certain installs. i cant realy remember what it is exactly, but their laws are much more strict. if he was working in kelowna or bc or ab hes be going on shear apprearance.
im pretty sure that you can take a kid and make him into an installer. but there is no guarantee that a pretty face is gonna get the position with you. this person is in TO. where MD is. Who do you think is gonna give him a chance in the same city that is riddled with MD graduates. we are the farthest things from TO. he is not.

and no i dont install. but i can. and i know how. i can walk you thru an install backard and forward. and explain what every atom is doing. but Dave O do you really think that some one would have hired me with no experience way back then. do you think id would made an spl car without it. or started a club or met you. I would still be in edmonton wondering if what a relay does, or a circuit breaker does. or what sound does. or what electricity does. Id be sitting there wonding if MD wouldve helped me... particularly.

That is why he should contact his area and find out what is needed to get hired when you have no experience

you are right in saying that getting taught by an experienceed installer is a good thing. and that saving your 6 g's for tools is good. he isnt gonna have an easy time finding a guy as good as you and as straight as you. I wish i wouldve applied to you way back then, you might have given me a chance. cause no one else did back then.

and sorry i do get very passionate about this. i love car audio. tried very hard to get in. very hard. moved to bc to try. just didnt have any luck. no certification no job. no experience no job. but ask me now how many job offereings i get. or how many sales man i can talk circles around cause of what i learned at MD

Where did you work after you graduated?

I got offers from 2 chain stores and an offer from an independent store.

Having a good foundation is good thing. you will learn faster and do a proper job. Some shops like to hire MECP installers because of insurance purposes.
