Everyone is full of ideas, but no one to stand behind them

Yuli, what if you or one of these shops talk about what has and hasn't worked in '09? Our scene is so small that everyone should be willing to talk and share notes. This worked for me and this didn't. What was good this year? Raffles? How about low entrance or was it the sold out BBQ's? Honestly I'm surprised nobody wants to help each other out.

I can even tell you what the #1 and the biggest obstacle is to putting on a good car audio competition event - everyone wants to win 1st place and no one wants to be a "loser". You find a solution to that problem and you shall have the biggest SPL events around.

I don't think that's something we can fix right now ... it's going to be mean certificates for competitors, maybe a professional photographer, who knows ...
All I'm saying though, from a financial stand point, lets talk about what has or hasn't worked. Personally, I think some raffles have been good and if you guys (as promoters/show hosters) talk about the raffle bringing in money FOR YOU, then I think more might be willing to buy a ticket ... support the show, buy a ticket.
BBQ's I'd say went well ... every damn time there was a bbq, food was running out. Selling burgers on hot dog buns, c'mon now ...
Maybe more people need to understand that they're not only competing against others, but they're going against themselves on the Term Lab site ... that's something to keep in mind.
Why are you trying to hit 145 when your personal best is 140 ... so what, be happy.
The same is said about Honda Fit drivers wanting to drive a SLR ... guess what, you're not!

who's going to finance all that? the things you are talking about are all away from the competition aspect. you can have a raffle and bbq show without any spl at all, but that would be completelly goin away from the point.
the idea is to have a competition, people going against other people. but everyone wants to be a winner, no one wants to come 2nd.
sure they will come and enter raffle and buy a burger, but if u look into the spl lanes there will be like 11 guys. and 9 of them will be the same guys you'd see at every show anyways.
people that are putting on shows now cant be putting them on forever, nor do they have to be the only ones doing it. I invite you to put on an event and implement your ideas.
I will tell you what has worked BEST thus far - completelly free entry. But, it costs money to put on a show and I'm damn sure not putting a peny of my own money into it, as no one else would if there is no guaranteed return.
I know you might say, "get some sponsors", my reply to that will/would be "go ahead, get some." Then get them to call me and tell me that they want to cover all costs - sanction fee, location fee, trophies, give aways, etc.
In 2006 there was a series of FREE events in the central GTA put on by small company at a very good location (a shop with a huge parking lot) - they had totally free entry, bbq, car smash and forklift car toss, bikini models, very nice trophies, professional photography and video, etc. The turn out was good, not amazing. 25-30 competitors. After one summer that company was never heard of again and the shop they were doing it at has closed since. They've put ALOT of money into it and got huge financial losses in return - all in the name of the hobby and advertising. Myself, nor any other veteran isn't about to do the same.
Do you know how much a permit costs to do a show in the parking lot anywhere in the GTA - $1000. That's a one day permit. You either get that or risk having your show getting shut down at any given point by the police.
You wanna sponsor the permit fee for the next show?

Everything you've mentioned I've given thought to and I'm not even financially backing shows. All I'm saying is that since we're all in a struggling scene, everyone needs to help one another out. With that said, I hear what you're saying, everyone wants to win. There needs to be some sort of return, even I look at it like that because I'm not the most hungry competitor. I don't think '09 was a loss, at all. A lot of good shows, a lot of solid turnouts.
What was the funniest/coolest thing for me lately was seeing the list of competitors this season on the TermLab site and seeing where I fall. It's THAT mentality that we gotta tap into and get paid off of in the years to come.

i think the new psyclone program and bassrace will be the most popular in the next couple years. cost and spl knowlege arent totally necessary to do these events, especially when you dont need 10kw rms+ to be competitive. More classes based on musical street pound installs is what will peak new interest IMO....and spectators perhaps.
Maybe for 2010 season we should try out psyclone?

If we want this and that car shop hosting shows for us, we need to make it work. We want a show, they don't want to lose money - wants on both sides.
And fixing the mindset of individuals to get more involved ... I have no fresh ideas right now, but I'll keep at it.
