i think thats why you see alot of the larger vehicles using 4 15s

I think I was getting terrible box rise out of my last enclosure. When we first hooked it up we noticed a huge current issue that we did not have with the old enclosure that we had just swapped out & thought it must be the batterys just getting old.

When i got back from the show & researched box rise eventually I started to think that was the issue, If i am correct it has to do with the resistance inside the enclosure creating a higher ohm load to each woofer ?

This enclosure has a much larger port & should act in a much more unconstricted manner If i understand box rise correctly. I deffinatly had to re-tune all my gains to get it just as loud with this box, So almost right away in the back of my head i knew I had messed up. Meh, Still had a great time :) Hell, Even when we put it all together & I saw how small it was inside even before putting the subs in, I was like oh F' what did i do, lol. Then i went back & realised i had copyed the cut sheet wrong & also cut off a huge portion of the box with my epic port experiment fail.

luke99 07-14-2011 07:51 PM

was the old box smaller then the 2nd box ?

The VERY first one i built for the subs, Was the one we replaced before the show.

It had no carpet / paint & only 129 square inches of port was tuned to somthing like 30hz or so.

( port along the bottom facing hatch )

It was about 12 cubes after displacement, But it did not go over the wheel wells & was rediculously high. It thundered out pretty hard & didnt give me as bad of voltage issues.

We felt that it was to close to the roof to be effective & also the port was too small, Witch is why we decided to try & rush a new one before the last soundsgood show.

It sounded alot better though in the end lol The new one just hit highs pretty good, But really didnt preform nearly aswell. I was pretty pissed at myself but the fun of the event quickly took that way lol

luke99 07-14-2011 07:54 PM

ya the box was way to high of an enclosure needed to be shunk , and the port needed to be twice the size of what it was but all in all was a learning experiance

bjohnstone23 07-14-2011 07:55 PM

what are the dimensions of the port on your new box?

Yeah, Thats how i like to look at it. Also the jimmy has no deadner in it, I.E why my roof looked like a peice of sheet metal in a windy storm.

The hatches of SUV's have little vent areas beside the glass where it closes down so the hatch can close when all the windows are up.

I have heard from sealing thease you can gain 2db alone because they vent out so much SPL.

6.5'' opening ? or w/e you call it, lol.
38'' wide
30'' long
( enclosure is 24'' tall goes down 18.5'' then bends into the enclosure )

237 square inches of port

bjohnstone23 07-14-2011 08:02 PM

ya my port for 2 12's is 6 inches wide, 14 inches tall and 19 inches deep. I am tuned for what i am hoping to be around 42-46hz if I am not at that number when i test I will build a new box and aim for about 36 hz and add resin which should leave me around 39 to 40 hz with sub displacement etc.

Yeah just checked the thread out man build looks nice. I cant wait to hear it, I love incriminator If i wasnt running DC I would run incriminator, Deffinatly a great brand.

There was a sunfire down there with 2x AQ 1200s on 2 FI BL 12''s same style setup as you, Not as big of a port though. It sounded great & did some good #'s I cant wait to see how incriminator stacks up. I think it will do very well, Do you use a box calculator ? I find torres box calculator is great for giving you an idea of what your tuning will be.

Sorry to be a grammar nazi, but the spelling is "challenge" not "challange". Also "excited" not "exited"......

Someone had to say it....haha.

bjohnstone23 07-14-2011 08:13 PM

I use re L port as a reference and run it past a good friend of mine and if he agrees i get my build on. The amp i have is by no means any kind of slouch either will amaze you the power it can produce. I am gonna be running it half ohm for dbdrags and usaci so will be grabbing alot more juice, hate to say it but it will most likely cook the subs but will be well worth it. I am looking to upgrade to a higher end incriminator sub as these are basically there entry level subs but for them to handle the power they see i am more then impressed. I bump this set up 2 ohms all day long at an easy mid 140db coils get a little warm but what can ya do. This set up will impress.

bjohnstone23 07-14-2011 08:15 PM

thanks luke for the hook up on the gear

luke99 07-14-2011 11:19 PM

no problom man , i think for quick burps youll be fine with those subs at .5 , but in theory youll be louder at 2 ohm as the sub would distort at that impedance , also would be less strain on your gear probably wouldnt be that big of a gain either .5 maybee

a lvl 4 + re-cone for 125 bux i think is a very good deal :)

hey man the deal was fine just alot of talk about crap on emails that me and u had but its what eve but personally well all said and done u know your i know mine and trust me i for sure the rookie out of the 2 but id like to go up against u and hell i more then likely will lose who knows but at least i can say i tried :D and if i lose ill try harder

Like i said man, Always up for having fun. I just dont want to be apart of any sour drama beef. But if its just a fun challange for the sake of doing it then hell ya im game :)

What you gonna be running ? Hopefully I make this august 7th show, I am really putting in hard work to get this enclosure done today, fiberglassed next weekend along with the 0 gauge ordered in, battery wrack will be fabricated on the 27th & everything will start going back into the truck around that date.

So unless we have some delays with the 0 gauge comming in I think i should make it.

bjohnstone23 07-16-2011 08:28 AM

kamloops for me is a maybe, most likely wont make it. I finally get on the meter for the first time today since got all my gear. Built a new box yesterday thats got little smaller of a port to test with as well. Cupid6969 you will be able to keep up, in this area big booming stereo's arnt as common will see alot of mid to low 140's even some high 130's will be alot less guys in the 50's at the creston show.

hey steve its a ford explorer ill be using since the mazda wont be ready and i have a little trick up my sleeve i should be doing with what ill be running at least a 150 db + but i cant tell anyone what it is its a secret lol

luke99 07-21-2011 04:33 PM

King kong is so right this is going to be a very interesting show for sure hey Luke what do u think she will hit for DB

luke99 07-21-2011 04:38 PM

well considering with your old setup that had half the gear that did close to 148 id like to think your gonna be 4 or 5 db up on that lol

cupid6969 07-21-2011 04:52 PM

yeah thatz what i figured and with the old setup i did a 149.3 db with the 2 12's and that massive 3k amp in the mazda but this is all new stuff now way better stuff by far :D

luke99 07-21-2011 05:04 PM
