Sorry for the essay that is about to follow but it is warranted:
Based on what seems to be concern we started to think about what we were trying to do here, some people have made mention of the classes and the amount of veterans and such in the “open” class. I feel it needs to be said that it should be clear, this is a league for fun, yes there are trophies and prizes and yes people will want to win. But it is quite easy to see this is a dying sport, anyone outside the industry or competition circuit could care less about how loud your car is.
While I love the big competitors as much as the next guy I think it needs to be said that we need to shed the light on some of the new people. That being said the A.S.P.L. Is the AMATEUR sound pressure league, so I know Don was very concerned with having people compete again the likes of Fred and Jesse and such. I must say, this is not a concern to me as the classes and league was created to spawn competition and interest among NEW AMATEURS the big guys will ALWAYS be crowd pleasers, I don't think anyone could forget Joell's dash jumping ship during a run, or waiting around to see what number Dave Joseph will smoke this time... again these are all great contributions to the sport but if you want to see this sport last you need to get more people involved and other leagues can sometimes present a competition format and rule book that is just to hard for someone new to understand and without help they give up, or they enter, get beaten badly and never come back.
I appreciate all the comments and concern but it remains that we are doing this for the FUN of it, if you are in an open class I still invite you to come as I know ANYONE who is unfamiliar (as well as those who are) with the sport will be blown away by what you have built... Guys and girls at the end of the day, if you win, you win, if you lose, you lose, thats it. We need to focus on seeing those in lesser classes come out and try in a format that is fair to them. We simply cannot always cater to the big guys...
Now in regards to the Bass threshold format, again another crown pleasing event, but it seems to have spawn yet another batch of concern from certain members of the community. Understanding this we have re thought our strategy and done away with the previous bass threshold (and had some awesome fun with a mic for a few hours last night) and came up with what I'd like to introduce as the A.S.P.L.'s presentation of Bass Bullesye.
60 second Head – to – Head competition style based on the class of your choosing, in which a number to the tenth of a decibel is chosen between a threshold of 1 db by the crowd, making this number the competitor target to hit for their 60 second run. For example, I compete in the 125 class, so the crowd will pick the tenth of a db number for my class at the event, meaning I will have to hit somewhere from 125.0-125.9 based on fan choice!
The winner is the first competitor of the two to achieve their target number. They will then advance to the next round of competition.
If neither competitor hits their target number they will be then compete in a sudden death round directly after their initial run. A competitor will only advance once their number is hit. Top 8 only will advance per class.
The second round of competition continues in a sudden death style match up until there is only one winner of the class, still based on crowd selection of the tenth of the db.
Podium finishes for 1-3rd place.
Classes:
115-115.9
125-125.9
135-135.9
145-145.9
155-155.9

This is something new to try, it does not mean one person must compete in this forever... lets keep open minds people thanks!

Very true, but that in itself has proven to be something of interest as well to veterans, for example last season at the majority of the shows, podium finishes in the street stock class were by competitors backed by a shop or veteran. And even at finals we saw excellent competition in that class but it came in the form of very knowledgeable experts helping others. We just want to see increased involvement and crowd enjoyment!

gay rules prohibit pros or sponsorships as well
you really gotta rework your classes for ASPL as everyone will be in the same class.
