Well, for the people that run events, it could be as simple as running it as 2 separate shows ... just you have set times for competitions.
So in Ontario we run a certain class ... we get our score.
They run their class at their show ... get their score.

Then, the best score is submitted to the event's leaderboard ... so a shared board.
I mean, it'd be funny to think that with the power of technology, we could smack talk across provinces (web cam, live) but ...

Yeah, all of this involves a lot of planning and inventive thinking.

So, what would happen in the event of a tie between say east and west? How would you conduct that race? It's not as easy as one would think.

Well that's up to the event organizer ... the east show wouldn't have a tie because it would have its own winner ... but for the sake of competition, if East and West had a tie, then I'd say WE HAVE A TIE ...

Simple as that, I think that leaves more to speculate if anything.
If the East and West competitors agree to a death match, then that could exist ... but realistically, I'd actually just leave it. It would leave people talking for the following year to think that no winner was called.

So actually, a tie would be very ideal for the sake of competition.

I've discussed this with other promoters and until a reliable way to link is established there is no real interest in doing it. 19.9 class was eliminated due to atmospheric pressure wreaking havoc and a lack of competitors in the class. Drive thru has always been setup but competitors usually want the screen directly in front of them so it doesn't work well.

I think the most "Reliable" way would be to bill it as two shows, not one. The best scores of each show make it onto a website/leaderboard, which is shared at both shows. If the scores are hosted on a www website, they can be accessed by both the East and West in real time and with the applicable people, moderator status could be given to both East and West so that they can be edited in real time as well.

We ALMOST did it this year (or last year, I forget now) where it was amongst 2 days ... East did one, West did another.
But if the shows were willing to transfer data in real time on the internet, it could very well happen IMO

that's the problem. it's hard to do it in real time, too many technical hic ups.

they used to do this at finals but there were too many issues.

What's so hard about that? I mean, maybe years ago it was hard to imagine but now, we could update the whole show on an iPhone. Seriously.
You could probably use that as a webcam ... which would require someone in the West to own an iPhone. I think it's literally THAT simple.

iPhone 4 users video chat for free anywhere in the world.

There seems to be enough trouble keeping the software up and running at just a regular show. I can't imagine how much worse it would be trying to get a live viewing online going also.

Till the TL software becomes bulletproof (which would never happen since that would involve time and $$$) I can't see this happening.

Technically you could co-broadcast both sides of the event on something as simple as MSN with webcams.

The problems come in more with people getting their *** to the line at the same time, starting the race simultaneously etc. The whole thing would take forever and be no fun for the people running the event.

money, money, money and money again. you also have to remember the monitors (you would need twice as many now) and 2 way streaming.

at finals that's how they tried to do it, with 2 way stream and feeds on monitors. the problem was crashing connection, lag and over all instability of the whole thing. it was a neat idea but turned out to have more head aches than anything else.

Also, people take their sweet *** time doing their runs. It takes us 4-5 hours minimum to do a show with 20-25 cars. Imagine how long it would take to do two shows with 20-25 cars. Show would have to start at 8 am to end by 5-6 pm.

Rob if you can make it happen and it can go smooth without glitches you honestly would be the pioneer of this type of thing.
