So Westen Canada finals means B.C area people, not Westren Canada.

Talked to James today, I know what he is saying, but look at the big picture next time.
I competed in some of the best western and eastern regional events in the USA back in IASCA's hay day. Never had any requirements to be at any other shows before attending any regional finals event. The regionals drew from half way across the nation as well as Canada. Have to agree with Rip Rock on this one. There are a lot of great cars looming out here that want to put their systems to the test, but sad to say they aren't at the level of taking multiple weekends out to tour the provinces for qualifying. I understand the premise and why it is implemented, but I think it perhaps would have been better served making it a criteria for 2010 and announcing at the event this year.

No doubt it will be a great event, but I believe the potential for this event may have been capped with that choice.

Perhaps more interest can be attained at the Calgary event you mentioned. Who is hosting it? where? when? Do you have any details on it? I have yet to hear of an event here. It will be purely geography that hampers the competitors from east of you. Most people in the Fraser Valley have a competing option right there, to the south in the USA, or the option of coming up to the Okanagan or Kootenays in as close as 3 hours. The closest city in Alberta is still likely 7-8 hours from you.

There are a few stores who were thinking of getting involved, but are likely going to wait a bit simply because of the timing being so poor right now.

Perhaps there's a way for guys to come out and compete/be judged who want to begin the process of getting into competition, but not have them qualify for the awards? This would not hamper guys from coming and might just get the ones who are on the fence about competing to make the jump....just a thought...Thinking outside the box a bit.

We are VERY happy that you and james are doing this. Dave I have always respected your desicions good or bad in my eyes. But I dont see your reasoning behind this one. We will wont be competing at this show. i dont have the funds to do that much traveling this year. too bad you limited competiors before it started.

Many people want to come but your requirments are restricting competiors. good luck at the show, im sure it will be fun as always.

Hey guys.

This is not only going to be in the WEST but also the EAST. It will be across CANADA.

I am open to suggestions for people who live in areas where there are limited shows, but there will be some type of policy in force about having to attend shows in your area to compete at the EASTERN and WESTERN CDN Finals.

I for one do not think it is right to have a vehicle show up in any class be it SQ, IDBL, USAC or DB Drag and take the title by attending just that show. ITS NOT RIGHT and its not fair to both the local retailers and the competitors. For shows to succeed in the future we need to get vehicles in the lanes at all the shows, from single point events to triple point events.

Please dont forget that IASCA is going to be for the first time ever have IDBL AND SQC Canadian Champions. Please read separate post on this topic tomorrow.

Showing a good attempt at attending some shows will get you a place at the East and West Finals. Both Finals are going to be in Aug/Sept so there is plenty of time to compete at some shows to qualify. Thats why we wanted to inform u sooner then later so that u could all prepare with lots of notice.

just like anything, a pre-requirement has it's pros and cons, and I can see the points and can agree with everyone......a canadian western finals, should be for the supporting competitors, but I can also imagine how many people are now going to be left out of this event. On the other hand, any serious competitor usually hits up 3 of either daves or james shows every year anyways...... db draggers need to get points, and shows are always a success. I still think it will be a decent turn out, but at the same time, could be seeing alot of classes with potentially less competitors.

All in all, it will be a first ever event, and I'm sure there will be kinks and wrinkles to iron out, to make it even better for the future. If the system works, then yay, if not, thenmight be worthwhile changing something next year so it does work. Either way, Erin and I will try our best to support.

well jason i must strongly disagree with you on this one point.... if i compete at only one show and smoke everyone, why is that MY problem? James has done this yr after yr after yr and won at worlds with no other shows under his belt... he gets ideas throught the yr. and spends countless hrs building his car for finals only. and owning the rights to usaci he can do this..... soooo why cant we..... this is a leisue event so treat it like one... no one shop is above the people attending.... i see that the people putting on this massive fantastic wonderful extravaganza, want to know that people will support more than just this one event... but honestly every show that they put on will be attended. its just that i cant go to to many shows this yr as i have hockey and ball and a wife with kids. oh and i have a full time job.... so damn i just dont have that much time.... i will concentrate on the closest shows and the ones with the most meaning. but dont punish us because we are poor, or choose family over a hobbie, or this and that..... not everyone is unemployed with tons of time on there hands and a rich daddy!!
