Basically my point in the previous post is its hard to make a competition based business when maybe 1% of car audio customers compete
I agree and that's why I think the competitors have a duty to help promote shows and bring more people in and not just leave it up to the shop.

^ so, your point is........ its hard to make a competition based business when 1% of car audio customer compete. but if a competitor promote the shows and bring more people in and not leave it up to the shop is o.k. right?

What if the shop don't provide such services because of the same reason as what you mention in your post below..... (sq gears are too pricey)

yea...sq gear is too pricey to make money from your average joe

sorry..... don't get what you're saying.

Shops hold competitions in hope of publicity and new customers. When they spend $5000 on a competition and get 10 cars and no audience they most likely won't hold another competition.

Most of us expect the shop to promote the competition and get locals and others to come out, however, that just further incurs them more costs. So now they spent $8000 for an audience of 100. If the 10 cars that compete tell 10 people or just post on other forums or bring their friends and whatnot, that's 100 people right there and makes the shop feel much better.

Bottom line, fewer and fewer competitions are held every year because there's no incentive or benefit for the shops. With little effort we (the competitors) can change that and I think we owe them that much when they provide us with these contests.

I hosted a sanctioned USACi SQ & SPL show last June up here in Prince George. We had 51 registered vehicles and less than 15 did SPL ONLY. Thats right....over 30 cars did SQ&SPL.

Now most of them were not SQ competition calibre but I told everyone that it was the perfect opportunity to have your system evaluated by a professional judge. Most people jumped at it. There were quite a few suprisingly nice systems in the mix. Most have upgraded and tweaked to improve their systems and can't wait for the next show.

With over $4k in giveaways as well as trophies I didn't make any money on the show but it was a blast and the best show PG has hosted in 10 years. I will be doing it again this June once I can finalize a date and will possibly be dual sanctioned.......and multi point if can afford to swing it.

This is not a poke at the GVA members here but I always here the same grumblings and bitching about not enough shows in the lower mainland but everytime I make the 9 hour trip from PG to Van I am always dissapointed on the turnout.

The turnout at the Beamriders show was pathetic and they even had ALMA GATES their with her Bronco on the NOTB Tour. Don't get me wrong...the show was fun and there were nice systems but there was @ a dozen competitors. Did they not advertise? I saw the event posted on CCA as well as revscene. Why won't people turnout? I am really confused

I was at the beamrider show also...... but only for maybe 20 mins max.

there were no SQ cars there, mainly all SPL. and no music was playing from demo cars other then Alma Gates's Bronco at about 70db.

the tent sale was probably the best part of the show, the prices were quite impressive! but i don't need any 6X9 speakers and prefab box tho.

The one beef i have with all these shows are.. there are no follow up! (no show results posted anywhere)

I remember in the good ol' days when radio station held car audio shows..... of course there were much more competitor back then (100+).
It was promote on radio for weeks prior to the show. and it was about "who has the best sounding car in town!" with prize money like $1000/1st, $500/2nd and $250/3rd. and show results are sent to all the car audio dealers..... so competitors could check what they score there. things sure have changed since then.

I have to say that when I put on DB Drag shows I would send in the results to Wayne within a day of getting home and he usually posted them quite quickly -- there was a comprehensive site where you could see your overall score and event by event. I am not sure what USACI or IASCA has.

Also, I realize why I retired -- little or no pay, bitchy competitors (whose only interest was having you agree with them -- the less they knew, the more they seemed to argue). Don't get me wrong, guys like Lethal, Team Shadow, Danny, Freddy, Loud Brown Kicker Colt (who I argued with, but respected), Justin LaRouche, and a few others almost made me want to stay around but at the end of the day I much rather hang out with my Daughter or play Rugby on the weekend than drive for 2-6 hours, setup, put up with whinners and lose money in the process.
