Would you support a Canadian finals?
#61
there is James, Don and Marty Wells on the west coast who are certified judges..
on the east coast the only current ones are Bill and Erie.. I say this because in order to be
a certified judge you need to attend the previous years WF...so they are pretty much the equivalent to our east coast officiating staff.. hell Bill and Erie are honorary Canadians..
As Bill likes to say WOODBRIDGE bitches!!!

Your responses seem very small-minded if you honestly think that Toronto could be the only place a Canadian World Finals would work. Yes, it is a possiblilty, but don't rule out everywhere else in canada. ALOT of world-wide events take place all over Canada, and the turnouts for those are just fine.
Because this whole idea is just a vision, I will wait to see what does actually happen next year. From the rumors that I heard at worlds this year, it sounds as though there will only be 1 north american world finals location next year anyways.
As for multi-point judges, there are at least 5 in western canada that I am aware of.

Once again you're talking about "all these worldwide events" and such taking place all over Canada and stuff... that means SQUAT in the world of SPL.. plain and simple.. SPL and dB Drag Racing is a niche market.. Do you really think you're going to have people travel all the way to freaking Medicine Hat or some other town... no offence to Albertans
Bottom line is that odds are North America is going to have a single location..
thats the odds and I dont blame Wayne really.. he gave it a shot 2 years in a row and
it got him nowhere..

Let's say there is a finals in MANITOBA......(eventho that would never happend b/c there isnt a single db dragger in manitoba, but whatever).
How many competitors would that location get?
Let's look at East Coast:
Winnipeg is a 2 day drive from Ontario and Quebec.......in 2 days you can drive as far as Denver, from Toronto or Quebec City. So, any and all Canadian (from Ontario and Quebec) that can cross the border will go to a US location as long as it's with in a 2 day drive.
Then you have guys who cant afford such a trip financially or time wise......so they are not going to Winnipeg either way. Still too far and too expensive.
So.......from eastern canada you will only get those who can afford the trip but can not cross the border. So you MIGHT get 3 guys. Solid.
And now the West Coast:
Vancouver/Kelowna to Winnipeg is a 2 day drive as well......so same thing applies.
At this point you would have to look for near by Provinces and States in hopes of someone from there making it to Winnipeg. Let's do that....
Manitoba itself - zero events the whole season....Don't expect a huge local crowd at finals in Winnipeg.
Alberta - one 1x from May to September of 2008. Not a huge following there.
Saskatchewan - a single 1x the whole season.
We will even consider Northern and North Western Ontario - guess how many events there......yah, nothing at all.
So yah, not a whole heap of competitors are coming from those regions...
Let's look at some close by States now,
Minnesota - according to the Db Drag callendar there were ONLY 2 shows in the whole state from May to September 2008. Both of which were 1x's. So, not a whole bunch of people are coming from there.
North Dakota - not a single Db Drag even the whole season....Not a big crowd there either.
South Dakota - not a single event either......somehow I knew that was going to be the case.
Montana - Two 1x's the whole season. Don't expect a line up of tour buses packed with competitors coming from this state.
Iowa - I'll let you guess........not a single event there either in the whole of 2008 season.
Winscounsin - Seven 1x events and Three multi point events. Now, this place is exactly the same distance to either Winnipeg or Toronto. Where do you think people from here would rather go? To one of the largest cities in North America (Toronto), a US location with in a 10 hour drive, or a place called Winnipeg that they have never heard of? It would be better off having a finals in Wiscounsin than in Winnipeg. Manitoba had ZERO events this season.
So, if there was a finals location in central Canada it could probably be held in a Tim Hortons parking lot and be done with in a few hours cuz it would have a turn out equal to one of average Toronto 1x events IF that. Wouldnt even need trophies. Just give out coffee's to the Top 4 in each class - Extra Large, Large, Medium and Small.
There would be NO americans, maybe 5 guys from Ontario/Quebec/BC, and (I'm going to be optimistic) 15 guys from Manitoba, Saskatchwan and Alberta regions.
So from an area of nearly 2,000,000 square kms (yes, i did the math) you would get around 20 guys?
Finals in central Canada would be almost as funny as having a winter olympics in the middle of the Sahara Desert.

I like your research and deductive reasoning Yuli.
in this instance you did what I usually do.
but I really wasnt in the mood to do that thus my BIASED opinion on why
Finals should be in the east coast.
Where do YOU think finals should be held if they were to be in Canada.

Clearly it should be held in Yellowknife

I do see the point, so I choose not to argue the subject further. Let us all just wait to see what the future holds.
the 5 western judges are: Ray, mini steve, don, james and marty. ALL attented and helped at this years finals events
