Crazy Alarm Ideas
Trust me... any power trunk release should either be relocated or removed entirely. All it takes (even with the lockout ones) is to pop it out and cross the wires. Ultimately, nothing is really safe...
I suggest a door lock actuator connected to the pin of a tear gas grenade... Once the horn sounds, it can activate the relay connected to the actuator, it pops out the pin, 3 or so seconds later, POW! That S.O.B is cryin like a b***h
This is a great idea for all you guys out there that still don't have an alarm.
You know how every deck has that bolt and nut on the back that is hardly ever used?
Get some steel braided cable and bolt one end to the back of the deck.
feed the other end down inside the dash all the way to the floor as you slide the deck into its spot in your dash.
once the deck is locked into the sleeve pull the steel braided cable tight and bolt it right to the floor or something strong.
Now there is no way anyone could pull that deck out.
And your the only one who knows where that bolt is that needs to be removed before the deck can be removed.

Any idea to "injure a potential intruder" is prosecutable. All the thief has to do, as mentioned earlier, is to prove "intent to injure". Even as he/she is holding the evidence or burning with it. You will be prosecuted and you will go to jail for aggravated assault or even murder.
The BEST way to avoid getting broken into is, not give the thief a reason to do it. So don't leave any valuables in plain site, don't roll into your hood with your system thumping, because if you want to attract attention, chances are you will succeed.

Dude, have a sense of humour. Can you not read that tear gas comment and realize how ridiculous it is? Who would actually do that? We all have our imaginations and ideas on how to get back at these low life pieces of trash, but most of us have significant others, kids, jobs, etc. that we don't want to lose over a punk. We're not in Iraq man... I once saw an Iranian BMW that had been rigged with flame throwers under the rocker panels... What say you to that, do-gooder? LOL

People have indeed done stranger things than razor blades, a sense of wry humour is something I have. You never know who is reading/writing in here, and what such content may instigate someone to do something silly.
To catch a thief
While a security system is designed as a deterrent and to inform you that your vehicle has been tampered with, it can't do much more than your imagination and technology will allow.
The Police do not want you to confront the thief for various reasons, as he may be armed, or have a few friends and your life is worth more than the content of your car.
So.., what can you do about that piece of #@%! that broke into your car and the neighbours?
Most all alarms have an "alarming output" which activates when the siren has been triggered, to initiate a starter kill or external relay.
It's easy enough to get a mini web cam and install high intensity light flashers in the car, to take pictures of the culprit. And with today's technology, (Blue-Tooth anyone?) one can go further and fax those pictures directly to the cop shop, and even make posters.
Now, wouldn't you have a small grin on your face as you stand behind one-way mirror at the cop shop, looking at a line-up to ID the same moron in the picture?

Oh yeah, fantastic, problem is that that all costs coin. I can tell you as an installer that 95% of customers won't pay the labour to install the starter kill, let alone cameras and the rest. Yeah, it would be fantastic to stand behind the painted glass, but lets be real here... , come the first snow flake, people just want a remote start and as cheap as possible. They don't care about anything but the dollars they're investing. Does it start my car? Is it going to last? How much? Can you make me a deal? What you're talking about is like 3% of the population... While I agree that your life is worth more than your car, I can also see that anyone is capable of grabbing a hunk of pipe or wood and walking out to confront the perp, no cost involved. People are (at that point) more protective of what they have earned, not what they have to lose. At least with two way systems someone can curse at the ******, and most times they will run. If you know anything about theives, you'll know they like to work quietly with no attention of any kind, so a simple "wtf are you doing?" is usually enough

As for the cost of grabbing a pipe or hunk of wood etc.., make sure to call your loved ones first to let them know you love them. How do you know the thief is alone? or unarmed? Have you ever had to deal with a young kid whose nerves are so tight that he's bound to do anything without a second thought? Please, before you go off half cocked, use the resources around you to make sure you have the facts straight. Go and ask the cops how many people have confronted thieves and got their guy, and how many ended up in hospital and came out in a box.
If you want a safe idea that costs no more than a can of food, get a dog! (make sure window is open or SPCA will be on your back)
I don't recall giving the customer the option of installing the starter kill relay or anything else that came in the box that he bought. If I didn't install it or the siren etc.., would we be talking about a security system or some toy to open the doors? If your client isn't willing to pay less than 1% of the value of his car in order to protect it, why are you wasting both your time or his?

The title for the thread is "Crazy Alarm Ideas". Spell crazy to yourself, and then ponder the meaning of the word and the attitude you should take before replying in this thread. The ideas are supposed to be outlandish, THAT'S THE POINT OF THE THREAD!!! Are you suggesting that I think everyone should grab blunt objects and chase after thieves? Again I ask, did you read my post before you started typing? What experience do you have with stolen gear and the typical perps?? You paint this picture of high strung, violent, even deadly individuals... Why would they be stealing a radio out of a car if they're at that level??? Like I said before, and I'll type it again, special for you, most (yes, not all) theives will run once you shout at them to get away from your gear. They don't want to be caught. Why don't you go to the cops and ask what percentage of stolen gear is actually returned to the owner?? How about a description of the perp? If no one sees the theif, no one can describe him to the police to be charged. So I ask you, which is better? Example 1: Just sitting back and allowing your gear to get punked with the knowledge that it won't be coming back and there's a small percentage the perp may actually get charged, or Example 2: Your key fob goes off, you go outside shout at whoever this person is, they either run, or they attempt to square off with you. Either way, your gears still there, and at the very least you have a description to offer the police. Now, I'm not suggesting people walk up and tap the theif on the shoulder here, and in the event this individual does attempt to harm you, I don't suggest seeing how tough you are. Simply remember what he/she looks like and make a phone call. Avoiding the vehicle/individual completely out of fear is only going to guarantee that the thief gets exactly what they want, and you get to go shopping for new gear since no one knows who this person is or what they look like.
