do you have to add anything special to your ins if you want your audio to be insured? if you have ins for car theft, I suppose that covers accessories too? do I have to tell my ins when I put in a system that is worth $X?

I keep hearing about bolting your stuff down. Isn't this the easy solution for amps+subs? :S

Insurance companies will only cover to say $500 unless you pay for "extra" coverage claiming that you have a system. Mine had me go to my local shop and get it appraised and send it to them. I pay $23 extra per month for $5k "personal theft" coverage but then they gave me a decent rebate for my alarm system.

Thanks, I'll need to look into that once I get something higher end. Atm, I'm aiming for a budget system < $1K.

In my T-bird Super Coupe I had 2 compression drivers inside the cab hooked up to a small amp run off a spare battery when the alarm went off, also had 4 regular sirens with 2 police speakers hooked up to a emergency yelp 100watt siren/amplifier they use on police/fire vehicles for the outside. Alittle overkill but it was awesome! Along with it pretty my being much tamper proof it was LOUD!!!

:

I don't care if it's pure truth or pure bullshit or anywhere in between, that is the most awesome idea I've heard for an alarm

It's pure truth. I had somewhere around 30 relays controlling all the different functions. Windows up/down, sunroof open/close, stereo on/off, driver and passenger door open with poppers, trunk release, hood release. Along with all the other goodies I had with the sirens, I had automatic window roll up when alarm went off. Shaved all keyholes and handles. Window breakage sensors. I had some downtime at work 1 day and went alittle nuts. Wish I would have pulled it all out of the car when I sold it. I just pulled the compression drivers with amp, police siren and speakers-they wernt getting those! All in all I had well over $1000 in the alarm system at cost. Let's just say I would have never done that much for a customer unless they had deep pockets.

I once had a small PA set up behind the rad. Never had that much fun at a cross-walk before... I'd yell something obscene and watch people $#!t their pants then look around wondering where it came from ahaha

I just hope there is a device or system that will automatically call the cops when a thief is trying to steal your vehicle.
