Minor car alarm issues
Minor car alarm issues
Hello,
First, I would like to say that I am new to forum.
Second, I recently bought a vehicle equipped with a car alarm system.
What I do know is the system I believe is an Audiovox Prestige, has remote start, and has 2 key fobs. Both fobs are APS2K4SAW.
Recently, I installed a new radio with backup camera option. I also ran the wire for the microphone aling the drivers door pillar.
Also, while trying to get the door pillar trim off, there is a part of the alarm system that is stuck to the windshield. It looks like a remote receiver, but not sure. It has a small circuit board with some kind of spring wrapped with heat shrink tube. That piece had a cover on it that popped off. I can’t find this cover.
What happens now, is the alarm system will unlock and lock all doors, however, at random times, it seems the fob will lose its mind and not work. If I am out running errands, I have to manually unlock the door and turn ignition on while pressing valet button to disable the alarm. Once the vehicle is disabled, it seems the fobs start working again.
I’m curious if I may have knocked a connection loose or if that missing cover is messing the system up.
I did peek at the box under the dash and I am able to see a sticker on it that has a serial number of:040800130813637940.
I also tested the batteries in both fobs. One was dead and I replaced it. Both batteries are 12 volts.
I am stumped as to why this system half works and if it is possible that I may have damaged it somehow with the radio install.
Also, can I order the piece in the windshield and replace, if that is the problem? I know it looks to be about 2” long and about 1” wide. Not even sure what that thing does, as previous owner of vehicle didn’t give me a manual for the system.
Any help would be appreciated.
Sorry for lengthy post and if I may have violated terms by posting brands/serial numbers.
Thanks,
Chris

Haven’t found a solution yet, but I did find the piece that fell from the transponder tapes on windshield. It fell into my dash panel when I pulled it off while replacing the radio. As far as the alarm system goes, haven’t got that fixed yet. For now, I disconnected all the connectors from main box and the truck is so far working. The only thing now is I don’t have power door locks. I found out from audiovox support that my alarm system is a Prestige APS-785.

New alarm system
I didn’t know if I should start a new thread or keep this one open for simplicity.
I’m thinking about replacing my current alarm system with a newer alarm system. The reason for this is 2 things. First, if one or both of my fobs are bad, that means having to buy replacement fobs. Replacement fobs may cost more than a new, updated alarm system. Second, is the possibility of a bad control module. Don’t think it is possible, but I usually have the worst case scenario happen.
Now that I have that out of the way, I’ve been thinking about which brand to buy. Should I buy another Audiovox and use the existing wiring if compatible or should I go with a different brand like Viper?
I think either way, I’m going to have to program the new fobs to their control module, as it depends on the features on the new system and making it work for your vehicle.
What is everyone’s thoughts on this?
I’ve been looking at the viper 3105V, but was curious if Audiovox or some other alarm manufacturer may have something better?
The 3105 doesn’t have remote start, but I don’t really need remote start, as my vehicle will primarily be a work truck and will be used to occasionally pull my 6x10 utility trailer.
Thanks for your replies.
