For the most part, it only occupies a small portion of your screen.
Some may disagree with your thoughts *lol*... ( original link )

In 2006 people had a bird when the ads were added and aside from using the blocker, they just complained over and over and over x10

Its a free site for everyone to use with an option to donate to the site related fees. No one has to donate, but they should expect that donators have to get something for their money.

The site is growing, funds are needed. So people have a chance to support the community that does free giveaways. I can assure you there is a ton of money that comes out of my pocket to keep this place up and running. I hardly ever comment on it, but someone had mentioned donation levels with different features may help justify it all. So, we are trying it out. We've had 3 donators this month.

Oh, and also. This means that future giveaways here will be for donators only or members with x amount of posts (likely 700+ posts). So that is the other incentive to all this.

So, despite what people think. This site does not run on a $6.99 hostagor box. In fact, the box costs 40 times more than that, a month. Never mind other licensing fees and costs. This site 2 years ago ran on a piece of garbage box (under previous ownership). Things have changed for the better.

I have no problems with adding tons of other features for paid members, but it would bother me to see the free accounts crippled any more than they have been. I think 25 PM's is fine, but I just hope this doesn't lead to more downgrades.

All I see is one disgruntled user. The rest of the people in that thread couldn't care less whether there was advertising or not. I sure hope advertising wasn't scrapped all because of one single user. You should make his PM-box extra small.

Really? I haven't noticed a difference in the speed of the site over the past few years. This is one site that I don't remember ever being too busy to access or slow.

I have to agree with Drew. This site was fast before, and it's fast now. So I'm assuming upgrades were done to prevent future bottlenecks.

Site was BRUTAL when Wade owned it and Paul ran it.. sorry, the software was antique.

Served the purpose for the small 2800-3000 member database with 150 users returning a day, site was small back then.

There were far more complaints regarding the ads, but they've been moved to a private directory where the staff can look over and remind ourselves why people left (or were forced to leave).

Advertising has not been canned at all.

And stay tuned, another giveaway coming..something small, but still good
