Question 06 MAZDA5 stereo in a 03 Cavalier

Hi everybody!

Im new here. I looked for the right place to post this topic so im sorry if its in the wrong place.

I am going to purchase a double DIN unit to put in my 06 MAZDA5, and was given a 2003 Cavalier for free from my sister. I know that there is a way to connect an IPhone3G into the MAZDA5 stereo using this "Mazda 02+ Auxiliary interface(GROM-AUX-MAZ)" and this "GROM Audio Standard (V2) iPod Dock Cable Assembly - 5V charging(Cable-C-IPD2)". If I could put my MAZDA5 stereo in my Cavalier it would solve all my problems for the lowest price.

Is this possible if they are both double DIN units?

Also I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good double DIN unit for my MAZDA? Id like IPhone3G interface. Ive seen a lot of Chinese stuff for great prices that include GPS and whatnot. are places like this legit?

Thanks everyone!

Hey everyone!

After posing the question on yahoo, someone put forward this answer " A "reverse" harness plugs into the Mazda stock radio and is spliced into the Cavalier vehicle-specific wiring harnesses. These appear to be the ones you need. Metra 71-2003-1 vehicle specific harness and a Scosche MA03RB reverse harness."

Is this legit? Id like to know before I tear everything apart!

Is the MAZDA 5 stereo a double DIN for sure? Ive tried to get exact measurements for each stereo ( LxWxH) from manufactures/dealerships, but they have not been able to tell me. Also, Ive tried calling local car audio places and they dont know either.

Is it possible to modify a 1.5 to fit a 2DIN?

Considering you can get an iPod controlling aftermarket deck for under $150 are you really making the best choice? Trying to get the Mazda deck to fit will be a challenge.

Question

Yes I would say you are right. My plan was to buy a double DIN for my MAZDA and then just put the MAZDA deck in my Cav. Kinda two birds with one stone. I was looking at cheap stereos from www.lightinthebox.com. Its a Chinese manufacturer so Im not sure of the quality. Apparently everything here is roughly 1/3 the price compared to North American products. If Im stuck buying 2 decks instead of one, do you think its safe to buy imports?

I wouldn't. Buy cheap, buy twice IMO...

Check the classified's, the local stereo shop, pawn shop... Don't buy a name you've never heard of, stick with something like Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine... I see decks loaded with features for $50-60 used all the time.
