Alpine V12 amplifier crackle
Hi all,
Recently installed a 4 channel amp, deck and speaker setup in a friend's CRV. A hell of a lot of time went into it and we took every precaution and care to do everything right. First time hooking things up it worked.
However, in the following weeks my friend has complained of some crackling in front passenger side channel. We fiddled with it and it seems the contacts on the amp (which is used) are sticky or dirty. All of the switches seem to produce static when they are adjusted.
My question is, will simple contact cleaner do the trick if we disconnect the amp and take the cover off? The amp works in all other respects, it just seems like its acquired some grime over the years of its use.
I would really appreciate some advice from experienced installers, thanks!

If you're lucky it will work. Most switches and pots are enclosed now days so you may have to try something else. With the power off try "exercising" the faulty controls over their full range of motion. If that does not work and there is no access for contact cleaner then you will have to replace the parts.

open, use contact cleaner and just turn that **** as many times possible till its "smooth" even the sealed one should still be able to be cleaned by just spraying some cleaner on the rim of the **** close to the "sealed up box"

great advice guys, thanks a lot.
We took the cover off and used small amounts of contact cleaner on the pots and did as was suggested and moved the dials through their full range of motion.
Reconnected it, no further issues. Good as new!
Thanks again
