Amp is protecting
So the other day I was driving down the highway, bumpin' the tunes...
Out of no where my mids cut out. My amp is going into protect. So I unplug the RCAs, same thing, disconnect the speakers at the amp, same thing.
About 1/2 of a second after the amp sees power, it goes into protect.
It usually lights the "over current" LED. But about 1 outa 5 times it lights up only the "offset" LED.
Anyone know why it's doing this..
Here's a part of the manual:
I'm taking a wild guess that I blew a resistor or capacitor etc in the amplifier. I'd like to fix it on my own if possible.
Can anyone point me in the right direction..
Oh, if it helps the amp is a Sony ES XM-7547

there is probably a bad fet somewhere....
if it's obvious it will read open or dead short and you can try replacing just that component... otherwise they will all need to be removed and tested on a scope, or all replaced....

Knowing that there's nothing else's connected to the amp, it's a big possibilities that the output side is blown and must have blew up the internal fuse but not your inline. Unfortunately, there's notmuch you can do but to have it checked/diagnosed with someone specialized with it. FYI, we offer free estimates on something like this. car audio repair centre, subwoofer reckoning, power assisted bicycle, refurb car audio,.
