amplifier not getting power
Hey, I'm relatively new to all of this, and I have done my own wiring job for my system. Anyways my amp started losing power randomly after a while, it happened 3 times I believe before this over a period of 1 1/2 - 2 months or so, it always came back on after a few minutes or after restarting my car, but this time it just isn't getting power. I've checked that everything's connected, and I've tried different grounds. my amp is an JL Audio j2 500.1 running an Alpine Type-R if that helps. any help would be greatly appreciated!

could be a grounding issue, or the amp is overheating and going into protect then after it cools comes back on.
when it shuts of check pull over as quick as you can and feel the the amp, is it hot?
go over all your connections and check your fuse(s) with a meter.
check the connections with the meter as well.

Well I can't really check the overheating issue now since it isn't getting ANY power anymore... And I'm pretty sure it's not a grounding issue, I've tried two different spots that have been sanded down to the bear metal.
OK I'll give that a shot when I get my hands on a meter.
Thanks for the reply.

if there is no more power getting to it then check with a MM to make sure, also check that the fuse hasn't blown or broken on one side. i had crappy tire AGU fuses and the solder joint on one end broke inside. the fuse looked perfectly fine, but wouldn't work.

As I'm still new to this, I have no idea what that is! - unless thats the remote line
Yup, i've check them all, that's not possible at the moment.
Not very well and honestly i wouldnt know what to look for on them. The one on my power wire looks fine though.

your REM is the little wire going from your headunit to the amplifier.
its purpose is to tell the amps when to turn on and off.
if you have a short in this wire, or its come loose somewhere, your amps will not power up at all.
try a different amp if possible.

ok that's what I was thinking, just havn't heard it referred to REM.
Ya, i was also told that if its not there or damaged that your amp will just stay on until your battery is dead.
saddly that's not possible at the moment

remote turn on, rem, same thing.
i dont see how your amp would stay on without one. ...thats the whole point, if there is no voltage going through that input, amp shuts down. if not, something is wrong with the amp.
