BIG 3 Issue
BIG 3 Issue
I did the Big 3 on my Ford Focus last week:
4gauge from the Alt to the Battery.
4 gauge from Battery to Body.
4 gauge from Engine to Body.
Now I start my car and the Volts are stupid high.
Volt meter reads 15.1
Amp reads 15.1
Car runs great But now im worried about cooking the Alt.
Any advice.
When i crack the System the Volts go up a bit more.

since its pretty cold right now in Toronto, I'm going to guess you checked the voltage while the motor was cold... It will drop down to somewhere around 14 volts once it warms up with the adjacent heat from the engine.
If I remember correctly the ability to conduct electricity is a function of temperature, so your alternator puts out a higher voltage and current when it is cold.
Or something to that effect. Let the engine warm up fully and then check it.
