when the car is off and the system on in pause i hear small amount of distortion, now when an electrical device comes on like my radiator fan whine car is off u hear a small high pitch wine like when u spin a little fan way to fast.... when the car is turned on the distortion increases two fold, and when the throttle is applied the high pitched whine increases in volume and in pitch with a bit more crackling..

throw some ideas out why this could be, cheeked the wiring noting out of place, clean connections, grounds good, upgraded engine grounds are good too...and power wire is not on the same side of car as the rca's only place its close to a pair of rca's is right by the amp.... and this is only on the speakers powered by the amplifier, other wise nothing beyond that sound is great clean if it were not for that

 

You're picking up electrical noise from your car, which is usually a sign of a bad or missing ground connection. Since you said you've checked all your grounds, it can't be that.....

You didn't say what kind of HU or amps or car. For instance, Pioneer HU's are known for needing a ground attached to the shield on the RCA outputs.

If you've tried everything else, sometimes it comes down to good vs. poor RCA cables. The really good ones are built to cancel out noise induced in the cable by the cars electrical system. I made my own RCA cables (just because i could), using star-quad mircophone cable. Its usually called 'double balanced' in audio stores. I grounded sheild to chassis, not to the RCA's. No noise!

 

well my deck is a pioneer 7800 and my amp is a rockford fosgate 4 channel 450.4 amp....i did some searching and did read up on the grounds and the possibility of rcas picking up noise, i will check the grounds again, and i might re do the deck ground thats first thing that popped into my head and if not ground the rca's too, thanks for ur time

 

i ran throught my grounds and its all good, measured the volt drop and resistance nothing wrong....im guessing the rcas now how do i ground those?

 

Wrap a stripped wire around the outside of the shield part of the rca. Attach to ground.

 

would i do it to both plugs or just single one out of each pair of rca's

 

I would try one and see if it makes a difference.
(it would have been the first thing i tried)
Then i would try 2 and see if that makes a difference.

Then come back to the computer to report back to us.
But then we'll send you away to ground them all and see if that helps.

Try everything, let us know what works and what doesn't.

Oh ya, you could try grounding at the amp and/or at the deck.

And, if all that doesn't work, you might have to replace the rca cables anyway.....

Sorry if i sound sarcastic, I went through all this 19 years ago (88 Z24) with my first system.
And the 4 systems i've had since haven't had noise.

can power and ground wires cross over each other could speakers wires also running near rca's cause issues?

 

what kind of amp do you have? This is probably a stupid question but if your underpowering you subs or speakers whatever they are and your amp is overheating it could ccause some distortion if all the grounds are good and the sound isnt able to jump from power to rcas

sorry i didnt read through the whole thread and now that i see you have a 450.4 that cant be the problem
