DTS vs THX

DTS vs THX
So, I sold the hearse. The 1st head unit I had was a Valor DDA-650W. Bare minimum features, but that was fine with me. I loved to use my demo DVD that had several movie clips to show off my system. My fave was the Star wars pod race. It was recorded in DTS.
So fast foward. A couple of months ago the DDA-650W started malfunctioning. Halloween was right around the corner. No time to get it fixed so I bought a Valor DTS-660W. Touch screen, nav, blue tooth, way too much for what I need in a show car that is rarely driven. I pop in me demo DVD and sure enough, all THX tracks work fine. But anything in DTS, all I get is video, no audio. I took the DVD and played it in my home system and it is fine. I called Valor and the tech said that the newer units won't play DTS. What gives? Is DTS that rare? Can I re-format the DVD? I have heard that DTS is superior.

DTS is superior in dynamic range as it is mastered to give you a more "Movie Theatre" experience. Dolby Digital is geared more for "home theatre". The THX you are refearing to is a standard of requirements set forth for the audio track and processing that has to be met in order to gain the THX moniker. "THX" movies are still dolby digital btw.

I get what you wrote, thanks for the clarification.
I guess my real question is what can I do about my newer dvd player with all the bells and whistles in the car not playing this DVD? Could I burn a duplicate and somehow change the audio format? That is WAY out of the scope of my abilities.
The DVD is very rare and hard to get. I couldn't begin to duplicate it.

Most dvds have a second audio track, usually a 2 channel track. You would have to set the audio track in the menu under either "setup" or something like that. Every dvd is different, but I would say 99% do have that second audio option. Also, if you are playing the dvd, and the HU has a remote, look for an "audio" button amongst the dvd controls. I know every home player has that, so I assume a car deck might have that as well.

That sucks man, I love DTS tracks, the bass is just phenomenal compared to DD. But yeah, its like digging for old Vinyl records in some dilapidated store trying to find that gem that has DTS on it,lol! On the other hand i've burnt some DD dvd's b4 and the receiver still displays "DD" when i play it, dunno about DTS.
Is there an option on the HU menu where you can play either "bitstream" or "PCM" or a button that u press (usually "digital") in order to play digital soundtracks? Kinda weird that it wont play DTS when DD is also "digital" so to speak. Besides it should downgrade it to Dolby Pro Logic or analog.
Worse comes to worse maybe ask for a replacement that has the DD and DTS logo on the HU!

most if not all dvd's with dts sound track also have the dd track on the dvd. in most cases you have to go into the sound options of the disc to sulect the dts track and almost always askes you if you are sure that is what you want.. check your dvd it prob has the dd track..

No bueno.
This was a custom burn from some dude on E-bay. Needless to say he is no longer a registered user. hmmmm...
There are no set up options on the DVD. The blank DVD disc leads me to believe this was made on some one's bad *** computer.
This DVD has 20 of the THX intros, and 30 film clips. Half of them are DTS.
This DVD is the best collection I have ever seen. The typical promo ones that are now on E-bay don't compare.
