humm from subs

hey , the other week , my wife pointed out that the subs were humming and she hasn't turned the radio on since .
I was out in the ccccold today to have a look at things . when the car is running it does in fact humm , if I disconnect the rca's it stops humming . if I plug in either L/R of the RCA it humms , this tells me that it's more likely a RCA cable problem ? and not a ground problem .
if it were a ground then it should humm when ever the car is running and the amps are on , if the rca's are connected or not , (unless the RCA"S are grounding out somewhere )
I have ordered a new set of connects I can't think of any other way to test it. ( and it only comes out of the subs) any more idea's ?

thanks Guys

Pioneer or JVC head unit? Loud humm, or fairly quiet humm?

It sounds like you have a blown Pico fuse in the deck. Try a different deck to be sure, but I've seen it many times.

Pionner HU's often lose the ground trace on the RCA's. Don't know why, but they do. Try running a small piece of wire from the amps ground to the RCA shield and see if the hum goes away.

thanks I try this when I get home from work and see if that fixes , it , if SO I found some nice pictures that should help clean the install up .
I will also have to check to see when I bought the desk as it might still be under warranty.
