Identifying the + and - on Kaption subs

For some reason, my middle sub wasn't working as it should. It has been like for a while. Since I don't know anything about enclosures or subs, I didn't touch the custom sub enclosure that was made.

Today I decided to take a peak. When I unscrewed the middle sub, I noticed a few of the wires came unplugged. One of the wires is like a loop, I guess you plug it into + to + or - to - or + to - lol.

Anyways, I need help identifying what terminals are + and - on the subs. These are older Kaption subs that I bought back in 2000 so there is no + or - clearly identified. All the terminals are all the same size as well.

The subs are Kaption 1000watt, dual voice coil 4ohm.

I'll take a shot and say that if the cone is facing away from you the + is the right side. I think thats how most speakers are made

I took a look at another sub in the box and it seems like its hooked up the opposite way from what you said.

I took some pictures (click on the thumbnails for a bigger pic). The first is a view of the terminals I was talking about. There are 4 terminals altogether on each sub. 2 at the top and 2 at the bottom. The second picture shows one of the positive wires that are on the right side of the sub if you are facing the front of the cone.

And to confuse me even more, when I went on Kaptions website to look up the subs, illustration here -> http://www.kaptionaudio.com/manuals/SPLManual.pdf<- (scroll down to the bottom of the pdf file). And it looks like the way EHR hooked up my subs is the opposite from the illustration on kaptions website.

I guess I wasn't so clear, I forgot to mention that you should assume the sub is a single voice coil sub. then put the sub with leads to the coils on the top and bottom while facing away from you. then look at the bottom (svc assumption), the + should be on the right side.

or try this. take some speaker wire and hook up one voice coil. then take a drill battery and touch one wire to the + on the battery and the other to the -. if my calculations are correct, then if the wires are touching their respective poles, then the speaker should, "should", go forward and stay that way. if they are touching the opposite poles then it "should" go inward and stay that way. then you can try the other one but it should come together and afterwards you "should" know which is + and - on the sub.

Thanks for the tip with using speaker wire and a 9 volt battery. Just to make sure I got it right, if the polarity of the speaker is right (positive terminal on the sub to the positive on the battery and negative terminal on the sub to the negative on the battery), the speaker will push out. And if the polarity of the speaker is reversed, the speaker will push in, correct? If so then I was mistaken and EHR did actually hook up the speakers the correct way
