Unhappy Image Dynamic sub problem... HELP!!!

Hi guys, i recently notice my ID have some problems when it's playing at low volume. The sounds coming from at low volume sounds like there is a loose connection and sometimes it will make crackling noise. But when it's being played at a louder volume, it sounds perfectly fine.

Does anyone know what problem i am facing with the sub?

Btw, the sub's been installed in my car for the last 3yrs and it's been problem free until recently and i didn't touch or add anything new to the system.

thanks
Wilson

Tap on the middle of the cone when the system is off. Take the sub out of the box and do a visual inspection for anything coming loose, tearing etc..

nooo... i am still here, just been busy to check the site for replies.

i did take the sub out to check if there are any loose connections or tearing and none was found. all wires looks good.

swap sub and box with a friend of mine and it works, so does mine when played in his car.

i should also say that the input is from a "speaker input converter" since my car is a lease and didn't want to dump money in for a head unit unless i wasn't satisfy with the sound. it's been 3 years so i could say i can live with the quality of the sound it's currently producing.

anyway, back to my problem. i notice a few times that the sub sounded like the connection was disconnected and when the volume was turned up a notch or 2, the sub turns back on and gave me instant bass. i dont know if my explanation sounds right, hope you guys understand what i am trying to say.

btw, what am i looking for when i tap in the middle of the cone? i did push it in and out a little bit when i took it out last time looking for something loose but nothing found.

thanks guys for the reply and sorry for my late reply.

Your listening for something to sound scratchy or loose.. If your not getting anything no worries..

At this time I'd ensure that The amp and sub are fine.... Unhook your inputs (the speaker level converter you have - which if you spent less that $40 on it - throw it away and go get a good one) - now take another source (even an iPod) and plug it into the amp directly.. start playing it at a low volume and work your way up..

Do you still have the problem? If no - then go one step further up your signal chain - in your case the LOC you have .. replace and see what happens

If you still have the same problem while running a clean signal direct - go get it checked out at a good store.. sometimes a 2nd opinion from a good set of ears and an experienced pro can help alot!

You never posted or input your location - tell us where your at and I'm sure we can get you pointed to someone who can help.

thanks Tony, I'll bypass the LOC and give it a try and report back.

I am from Richmond Hill, Ontario. A suburb north of Toronto.

Thanks again for all the help!

Go see Chase Audio if your having trouble figuring it out still.. they are good people that know their stereos.

Good luck and let us know what it is.
