Newbie: Needs your advice on full car stereo install

This is going into my Lexus GS300, so far I have the following but still require a good amp for interior speakers and headunit:

Planet Audio Class D VX1400D amp RMS into 4 ohms: 500W x 1
2 10' Alpine Type R 4 ohm subs RMS 500W each
Double DIN Jensen / Phase Linear UV8020 h/u RMS 13W x 4

As for what speakers are in the interior, I am not sure. Looks like aftermarket 4" JL audio speakers in the front doors with tweeters and stock in the rear doors. I will just keep them and most likely re-wire them.

Questions:

What amp should I be looking for? 2 Channel? 4 Channel?

Any opinions, suggestions, comments welcome.

So I would likely need a 4 channel for the interior speakers (front door and rear door) as well as tweeters right?

Can I connect two amps (from different manufacturers) together? Like my 4 channel amp and class D planet audio amp? Will 4 gauge wire be sufficient from the battery? Do I need 2 gauge??

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

If you ideally want to run front and rear speakers, then you will need a 4 channel amplifier. Your head unit should ideally have 3 preouts on it, front, rear and subwoofer. You need a budget for the choice of amp and headunit. You also need to determine if you want a single din headunit or double din with screen etc. You need to know what is important to you in a headunit, Bluetooth, USB, ipod, DVD, GPS etc. Ideally get as large a wire as you can for the system.

thanks for the reply, it makes sense now that I need a 4 chan amp.

In terms of what I'm looking for? Best bang for the buck. I've heard good things about kenwood amps, but I need something that will complement the stock speakers in the rear nicely as well. Ideas??

How about the Kenwood KAC-6404 ?

I also have a 1 Farad Cap for supplemental power, how do I tie it in with 2 separate amps?

Come up with a budget for your equipment and blast me a pm. I will respond in my off time, sometimes at rather odd hours.

Thanks MR2NR,

I ended up buying the Kenwood KAC-6404. It's a 500W 4 channel amp which looks like it will supply the cabin speakers effectively.

Another question:

I've got 0/1 gauge Wire running from the yellow top bat to a 0/1 to three 4 gauge distribution block (one to run to the 500W amp, one for the 1 Farad Cap, and one to the 1000W amp). Do I ground each with 0/1 gauge wire? Or can I ground with 4 gauge for each?
