How, and do these things work?

 

Your best bet is to not worry how they work and find a good installer because poor instillation and poor equipment are the most common causes of unwanted noise in a system. Noise filters are a bandaid solution.Good equipment and a good installer are your best noise filters. Period!

 

Thats what I thought...The shop that did this install did such a ****-poor job...I spent all weeked trying to do my best to straighten things out.

I look off my back seat and almost had a heart attack when I saw the RCA cable sitting on top of the power cable - all within 2-3 inches from the ground. The ground off course was simply bolted to a painted surface.

The gains on the line driver were not set, there are gaps in the 6.5 driver install.

The owners suggestion to cure the noise was to lower the gains on the amp...Which his for brains 'apprentice' mistook for the frequncy settings...

I am in the process of rectifying this, so in the meantime I am not gonna name names...

 

if it was a sub amp it doesn't really matter if the rca's were near the power wire as the induced noise in this situation is not in the frequency of sound that a sub plays. If it was for mids it does make a differance. The gains being set to high could also make noise but what kind of noise? Was it ground loop?(alternator wine)Loud hissing,thumps pops, and crackling. The type of noise will help determine the source.

 

Definitly alt whine...Amp in question is a JL 450/4 with Streetwire ZN7 RCA cables.

The line driver PD TLD66 also produces a static poping noise when the gains are set at a moderate level...

 

Why use a line driver? Try things without it. I could be wrong about it being the problem but it's free to check, and if it is I bet you wont notice it's gone.

 

would those at least fix the radio station signal frequencies? since i installed
my alpine deck AM/FM sound horrible
