pioneer amplifier cutting out

Hi,

i have a GM-X562 pioneer amp and when i put the fader to the enter position it keeps cutting out both channel, when i move the fader to the left position it also cuts out after i turn on the volume a bit but if i put the fader to the right position it will not cut out but the sound is not so clear it has some thumps/crackling noise. do you think i have a shorted left output from the amplifier or something else ?

thanks
ronald
