Question

Hmmm, so i just upgrading the subs and amp powering the subs, now using a re xxx 12 and a viper 1200.1, the rest of the setup is the same.

After a while of having it in the vehicle, i've finally turned the volume up....gains are...well i haven't paid much attention to the gains as of yet....

None the less, i was finally turning the volume up to "loud" and after a while of driving around...and say "super loud" for a single song, the stereo sounded lit it was cutting out a bit. Kinda hard to explain. Then it continued, i turned it down. I wasn't sure if it cut out or if the cd had just skipped, so i drove a bit then turned it up again and it cut out all together. Now keep in mind seperate amp powering highs from the subs. At this point, i pulled over, my box sits on top of the amps, and there's potential that they could heat up, i felt them, they were not even warm let alone hot.

I Kept the deck shut off and drove a bit. After about 10m driving i turned it on again and all sounded fine.

I'm kinda confused about what hte problem might be...Both amps seemed to cut out together, which to me points to either power, remote wire, or well thats all. But it only happened when up really loud as if something was over heating (yet the deck kept playing...according to the lil equalizer thing that shows hte sound).

What suggestions do y'all smart people have for me in this case.

hmmm would it do that....after a while but not to begin with?

Technically the concept and the viper both require the same amount of fuses not that that might mean much. There was no light dimming which is the only thing i've ever known to check for...guess that doesn't mean that voltage is getting to the amplifiers though.

What can i do? Just go to a secluded area....crank it....and put a multimeter on the distro block and measure whats going thru there? See if it drops strangley low?

Actyally I thinks it's probably the Deck's 12v remote that is the problem.

With 2 different amps going into protect or whatnot. It's highly unlikely that the amps shut off both at the same voltage.

Hence I think the deck either needs a new or better power/ground or something is wrong with it at low voltages.

Running any of the speakers off deck power?

Could potentially need a relay on the remote wire. If the deck had a bad power/ground connection it would probably be turning itself off. Remote wire or voltage problems, I think I'd put my money on voltage tho.

hmm remote turn on was kinda my first idea. And i should check it.

The way my amps are setup, box sits overtop of them) i can't see one end of them. Of course that's the end that the amps lights are on. My remote ground go's to one amp and then to the other...so it's possible that it came off the first amp...although when i checked them, the amps were on (could tell from the logo's that light up on top).

Guess i'll try and check the ground as well as see if the amps are suffereing from a lack of voltage.

hmmm well went out somewhere to test voltage today...

with the deck at 0....the voltage was pretty consistant at 14.27V.

on a fairly bass heavy song, with things about as loud as i ever turned them...the lowest it would drop would be about 14.12V

I am no car audio expert, but i don't think thats much of a drop or anything to worry about. Lookin at the wires to the amps, they all seem fine.

I had a lotta louder volume stuff as i was try'n to figure out the gain (have had people say watch your gain n volume....which makes it a lot tougher to set the gain for the sub...and settin ghte xover...arg...why can't they label more points on the dial??). None the less, it didn't cut out at all today...so we're still good.

Last question in the past, i had a cd that helped set gain that is no longer around. I trust i'm ok to just use a test tone and listen for a change in pitch. But does that mean i'm at the sub's limit's or the amp's limits? is there recommended frequencies to test at? (for subs)

*****edit*****

whatever the original issue was, i've been tuning the sub and given it a fairly decent work out lately. I haven't been able to reproduce the problem, so i'll assume whatever it was....solved.
