k so 1200 at 1 ohm..are there disavantages to running it on 1 ohm compared to 4?

 

Monoblock at 1200W RMS @ 1 ohm it is.
I would suggest a Kicker KX 1200.1 maybe?

 

The lower the ohms, the sloppier the bass is in theory.
I don't know if this is audible or not, or even relevant.

my buddy recommeded that but its a bit on the pricy side for my build...is there anything similar you can sugest?

Birthsheet says 1200W+ RMS at 2 ohms.

Anything from maxxsonics will be good in price and performance. You will not be able to hear the difference from running an amplifier @ 4 or 1 ohms.
