NP, my jaw dropped on the pricing when it was told to me as well.

the problem with some of the scientific grade power supplies is that do not like being dynamically driven. It freaks out their processors. I run a modified 100A Samlex power supply and 2 additional batteries as buffers.

What an old shop I used to work for did was just run 2 large deep cycle batteries and a 12A charger. Could play the boards pretty much the whole day , every day and never a hiccup, was on the same batteries for the 5 years I was there

x2

Get a batt with a high reserve rate, and a decent charger

My 60amp supply was very near $400.
I'm running a deck, 50x4, and a 500x1, and an Optima.
Just for the garage, doesnt get turned up very often.

Just get home audio?

LaZyLuke 04-08-2010 03:57 AM

I allready got quoted for 300 bucks for a 500rms plate amp, I think in gonna buy two plate amps eventually (1 for sub second for midbss) since decent car audio amp will cost me 200 at least I think it will be worth spending 100 more and get plate amps.... I'm allready running my deck from a single pc ps... Just have to solve a ground loop problem due to a shitty laptop dc converter...

Weman- for the sq and spl I will get with this setup I can spend thousands on "home audio" and it still won't be the same... Not mentioning half of my setup came free or close to no charge....

Not sure where you are in Ontario, but A1 surpla near sherway in Toronto has all
kinds of new and used 12v ps's so you may find what you are looking for there.

another thought would be to get an alternator and an electric motor and hook it up with a belt. you would need to figure out the sensing wiring though. also i've been told you need 1 hp per 25amps, so 4hp for 100amps.

I share a house, so runing a motor in my room will be very annoying... I will attempt that 10 pc ps in parallel, since they come free I'm not risking much ( maybe minor injuries when everything blows up)... Wish me luck!...

Ps thanks for the input everybody- after exams I will check out the a1 surpla that d113 mentioned... I don't mind spending few ( not hundreds) bucks on a decent ps... Thnx

You could try an RV shop too.
They might have some decent power supplies as well
