Speaker Wire Guage

Does the guage of the wire from coil to coil on the subwoofer matter? I was told even 16 guage wire for my Kicker CVR (500 RMS Dual 4 and I have a set of dual 2's) is overkill. Now even if it is overkill, is their any advantage to just running 12 guage? I can get some here at work. Does it also matter the guage of the speaker wire from amp to the sub(s)?

Putting bigger wire can be overkill. or if yiur trying to gain every .db i have run nothing smaller then 14 gauge to my subs and nothing bigger then 8 gauge. I say go with the 12.
