Speakers Don't Work In Cold Weather..Why?

hey I have a alpine f450 4 Channel amp, and ever since the winter hit, I get no sound when its really cold. It takes about a half an hour when the car is real warm for the sound to work. I get all bass but nothing out of the speakers. The amp light turns on and it seems fine, I think theres something wrong with the amp an its not heating up properly? Or mybee its the RCA wires?? Tell me what you think....

I got an MRV-F540 and it works just fine. Are you sure it has to do with the cold and not your wiring. An amp would shut off if overheated but I am not sure how cold would affect it. you said bass works... is your sub hooked up to the same amp?

I've never had an amp problem because of cold, and i've been to some really cold places, like mountains in Wyoming at -35.

The only cold problem i ever had was speakers freezing up, and that was because they were damp, before it got really cold, then they froze up.

If it is your amp that doesn't work, it might have a problem to begin with and the cold just set it off.

I'd put my money on frozen speakers...........I've seen alot of that this winter. Go and buy those plastic speaker baffles, cut 'em in half and put them over the tops of the speakers in the doors

The amp is most likely fine. However the surrounds on the speakers get stiff and reduce movement. More so if rubber surrounds.

2x for the rubber surround, My dubs don't bump in the cold, but after about 10 mins of driving they start bumping a little bit.. Gatta love them Dubs 6x9's haha.
