Strange POP between sources

Strange POP between sources
I have a Kenwood DDX-7019. If I use the speaker output and hook them up to the OEM amp everything is fine. However is I run an external amp (Fosgate 200A4) hooked from the SUB pre-out I get a low volume and a pop everytime I switch from one souce to another (dvd, usb, tuner, etc) not to mention when the unit goes on or off.
Now if I hook up to the OEM sub wires and run those into the Fosgate amp there is no issue. Not sure if I can use the OEM amp sub wires as a signal though.
I know the amp is fine but I'm wondering if the DDX-7019 has a pre-out issue.
Any ideas??

The output of any headunit, pre-amp etc has a muting circuit (a transistor), or in higher end products a relay, that mutes the output between tracks and when switching sources etc. In the higher end products with a relay on the output, it simply breaks the output signal for a second while the source switching (as an example) is happening.
I have seen it a few times, someone hooks power to a speaker output on a deck (blows out the muting transistor) and now have a problem like you describe.
This may not be your problem, but i wouldnt be suprised if it is.
Cheers
