Hey I'm having some problems with my subs and I really hope I'm posting in the right section. The problem is that for the first 5-20 mins while I'm driving they're working fine but then they'll cut out and not work again until I park the car and leave it sit for several hours, then the problem resumes the next time I go anywhere. I've checked my connections and fuses and everything seems to be where it should be. My ground was a little lose so I tightened it but the problem persisted. All of my fuses appear to be intact on the battery wire, fuse panel and amp. I'm using a Panasonic CQ-C700U head, Alpine MRP-M1000 amp, and 2x 10" Alpine Type Rs, with a 4ga wiring kit. The system worked flawlessly for a year but then this problem arose around new years when I got hit and run (the impact pushed my car up onto the curb). I need help!!! I can't live without my bass!!!!!

 

well i was going to say it sounds like your amp is overheating, but since it just started happening after the accident, not really sure.

next time your out and it shuts off, go feel the amp to see how hot it is

 

Your amp might have a problem that is heat dependant. Maybe after warming up a while a solder joint losened by the accident will open up. If possible swap in another for a test. Maybe a friend will lend you one if you don't have a spare. Even a small amp will do for the test.

 

Sounds thermal to me too. Is the amp hot when it shuts off? It could have just been slowly dying and now is acting up more. Other than the accident part, it sounds totally thermal.

 

Sounds like thermal also. how about if you turn off the system for a few mins and try again in like 10 mins (just to give it some time to cool down)

 

If it isn't thermal (there should be a light on the amp that comes on when it goes into protect)

it could be the amp was damaged (use kevmurray's trouble shooting guide) or
the ground connection is not good enough (this is free so re-clean the connections to remove any oxide and make sure your ground is tool tight not finger tight) verify your voltage at the amp is the same as the voltage at the battery

 

Alright guys thanks for the speedy replies and the useful info. I'll try to see if that light comes on if the amp overheats and I will reconnect my ground again (I hadn't thought of cleaning it to remove oxides) so hopefully when this solves my problem. As far as the amp slowly dying it's only just over a year old since I bought it from the store but I'll keep it under consideration.
