What is the difference in the Peak power and RMS in amps these days?
I've been talking to my buddy about amps. I have an old school US AMP 2000. I told him it was 2000 watts. He said he was getting a Kicker amp that was like 2000 RMS. Mine doesn't have a RMS but I know for a fact that my amp is better. Why did amps start putting a RMS on everything these days. I can't seem to find a "peak power". Any help?

there are different opinions on this.. music is not a constant power sinewave. It has peeks. While a spec of watts rms continuous is something very measurable, the industry has not really decided on a spec of peak power capability.. like for how long how often. But for normal music an amp that can put out 50 watts but handle peaks of 200 watts with no problem may sound just as good as a 200 watt continuous RMS amp .
