What you are looking for from the big 3

Hey guys,

I just finished installing the big 3 and I just wanted to show you guys some of the tests I ran and how well the big 3 helped out my system.

I took all tests with a multimeter (i paid 100 and something for this, don't ask, step dad is a contractor) and found some small, but amazing, results. The test was subject on a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero (2.4L), no new alternator (as yet) and a simple system of 550rms + deck.

I am currently upgrading the wiring now to the back of the trunk for a new sound system I am planning on putting in. Ok, lemme stop talking and show you guys the results:

The big 3 (heat was on when doing tests, not a/c)

Voltage test without big 3:

Car off: 12.46V
Car on (no fans or system running): 14.36V
Car on (fans at Max and system on at 25/35 volume): 14.05V

Voltage test with big 3

Car off: 13.33V
Car on (no fans or system running): 14.53V
Car on (fans at Max and system on at 25/35 volume):14.48V

All the wiring, fuse holder, battery terminals and other accessories were bought off of KnuKonceptz (pretty good company if I should say so). All wiring was 1/0 Gauge. If you are having skeptics about putting in the big 3, just take in the numbers.

Glad to see someone actually making measurements. Good job!
I was surprised to see a difference with the car off though (12.46 -> 13.33). Could this be because the car had recently been running in the second test? I guess the wiring is done now so we'll never know. Thanks for sharing.

could have been a loose terminal or corrosion before the wiring upgrade too. 1 volt at idle is a lot to pick up that much generally shows that there was some sort of problem to begin with.I'm curious what the numbers show with some serious current. 550rms current draw is well below what 0ga. can handle. Thanks for the numbers though!

yeah, the whole thing about it is when it was done I really didn't check how much resistance out of the old wires I was getting. I personally believe, like u guys, that the better ground caused for better charging, no doubt about it. I am planning on installing a new alternator and 1500rms system. What gauge do u guys recommend for that kind of power?

I think the operation was flawed, as the it was most likely uncontrolled environment on many counts - too many variables.
