Red face 4 12's Fiberglass tuning help.

Hey guys, Ive recently introduced a good buddy of mine to fiberglass enclosures.. This one is his first, and id say its not too bad I showed him how to create a base, frame , and how to apply resin. Than let him do the dirty work from there .. yay sanding I have yet to hear the system since he's had it all put together, but he sais that some songs just pound.. Are insanely powerful with base, than on other songs the box sounds ' hollow ' Just wondering any tuning tips I can get for this box.. Im not too sure what the exact air space is, have yet to get my hands on that many packing chips :P Any help greatly appreciated. I am not too sure what model subs nor amps he is running. But I will as of 9:30 tonite.

Question

/\ I agree, it looks good.....

Is there any bracing between the center of the baffle and the bottom and sides of the box? That might be an issue over that wide an area......

We'll I just got back from my buddys place, the system is solid. As he described, some songs sound really good, and others do have a hollow sound to them. I am impressed with the design and how everything turned out. I grabbed the info on the gear too. The subs are Xplod Svc 1300w peak, 350 rms, and the 2 amps are 2ch 250rms continous 1200 peak. I believe he has the subs wired individually to each channel..

As for the construction, no there are no braces inside. This thing is solid. Just do the weight test :P stand on it and bounce, if it doesnt break your good = ] Ive suggested some polyfill for it, and am curious as where to get that many packing chips to test for airspace :P

All that aside, its going good. and looks even better :P another one for the albums. Any comments or tips appreciated ~

Lightbulb

If it is staying sealed, why bother knowing how much airspace there is. A decent estimate can be done figuring just the trapezoidal area created by the wood - it looks like the small extra space the stretch parts of the fleece adds is roughly similar to what the driver displacement is anyway.

Doesn't matter how solid it feels - add bracing from that baffle to the floor and to the front panel. Then line the inside with fiberfill and I would expect it to mellow out.

lol, thanks. This is the biggest job so far. Diddnt attempt 4 12's before this one, never really had the demand. My buddy was determined tho = ] Overall time was about a week. The first night we talked about the design, I had him make the base and rings at work, and the next available night I framed it up , and wrapped it. Night after that I showed him how to apply a litre or so of resin, than left him to it while I ran new power wire in my car = P. He did a great job at finishing it, I told him I wasnt gonna do it :P gets tedious after a few projects. So far so good tho. Now to introduce him to dynomat = ]
