Exclamation Alpine Type X 12 inch

i just got an alpine Type X subwoofer and a alpine PDX 1.1000 amp for dirty cheap. Now i don't have a box, id like to build a box i have all the wood working stuff. Now i have no clue what size box and port size and stuff cause i want it to sound perfect. could someone point me in the right direction? I want it to be an all around good sound not just down super low or w.e. if you guys understand!

How much space can you take up in inches? If you don't care about output as much as SQ (response) use a sealed box. SQ won't go down with a ported box but it will have worse response below port tuning and it won't sound as crisp. For sealed try 1.25 cubes and ported from 2.25-2.5 @ 30-35hz with 12-16 square inches of port area. The Length of the port determines the tune so if it's too high make the box shorter and longer with a wider port. I think it's the multi-roll surround that adds to the high mechanical noise so if using a sealed box try to keep them pointed away from you. You don't need to use 1" MDF but it would be sturdier. Don't forget to account for displacement values and where the screws will be.

RE Slot Port Calculator (some say it's screwy after using a second port length)

RE Enclosure Calculator

For .18 cf3 displacement (BTL 12)/2.5 cubes @ 32.83hz with 16 sq.in of port per cube/1" MDF & 1" spacing between the subs outer diameter and the MDF (so the screws aren't hitting the longer sides of the box):

width 18.7
height 14.5
depth 30.45
port width 3.2

If you want the most output use an L-shaped port for good airflow instead of a bunch of S-shaped ports, unless you need to make the box really wide and the port depth short. If the outside diameter is 12.5" and you're using 1" MDF try to make it 14.5 x 14.5 (not including port width obviously).

2.2-2.4 cubes with 14-15 square inches of port is a good shoot. If you're concearned about low output but want a 35hz tune than use the larger 2.5 cube box. Most of the pre-fab Alpine boxes are around 40hz, the older ones anyways.

From Crutchfield:

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box sizes recommended by Alpine range from 0.65 cu/ft to 1.25 cu/ft. with an ideal volume of 1.0 cu/ft.

Recommended Vented Box Volume: The vented box sizes recommended by Alpine range from 1.0 cu/ft to 2.0 cu/ft. with an ideal volume of 1.8 cu/ft. A slot vent, with the dimensions of 12" x 1" x 24", is recommended.

Displacement: 0.194 cu. ft

Does 2 cubes with 12 square inches of port per cube seem kinda low?

Higher tune...

RE Enclosure Calculator

width 20.25
height 16.5
depth 23.34
1" MDF
port width 2.75

port area 39.875
volume 2.687
displacement .194
2.493 after displacement
36.54hz
15.9947 sq.in. of port per cube

Why are all of Alpine's specs different on different sites?
