Box question for 4x 10" Alpine ZR subs?

Hey all... I am hoping to pick the brains of more experienced box builders here at CCA...
I am planning on putting 4 old school Alpine ZR 10" subs in my GMC Sonoma ZR2 Extended cab. I am probably going to go with a sealed box.
My question is what is the best direction to face the subs? I have seen boxes firing straight up, some firing forward (towards the seats), and some down firing boxes. Which is the best? I was thinking of down firing the subs, only as this would protect the subs, but I don't know if it will sound as good as forward or upward firing?
Any input would be appreciated! I will be running a Kicker KX1200.1 to the subs, as they are SVC 4 ohm, which would give me 1 ohm to the amp...
Thanks!

Upward firing subs tend to blend very nicely with a front stage, rear firing subs tend to give you more spl. All depends on what you're trying to accomplish. GL

I can't have them rear firing, as they are going in an extended cab pickup truck... there isn't a lot of room to start with, as it is only a Sonoma. I am wanting loud, but clean.

Keep 'em sealed up and you'll get both for sure.........as noted above the direction they fire will alter how they interact with the rest of the system. If you fire them into the floor you'll get more vibration thru the seat, which (so I've been told.... ) can make for a more interesting ride for the fairer sex and extend your low frequency response down a bit as well......

Fortunately it's easy to convert a down-firing box into an up-firing box, so if you do want to try it, build a tester and try it every way it fits. Once you hear the difference you can decide how you want to build the permanent one.

I think thats exactly what I'll do... Sealed down-firing... should bump pretty good! Thanks for the input!
