Can comeone help me with box design?

So my new sub has two Optimum Enclosures.

The first one I already own its just a 1.2 cu ft.

But the other one that is rated for High SPL is suppose to be 1.0 Cu ft./ 28L
Tuning frequency of 56 Hz
Port- 4"x7.25"

I think I have an idea of how to make this but I dunno about the whole litres and Hz? If I build a box thats 1.0 Cu Ft will everything else be correct regardless of how I build the box?

Also does thye port have to be in the front of the box? Or can I fit it into the side?

I was just gonna make a simple 1.0Cu.Ft Box slap a port in the side and put the sub in. or is there more too it?

If someone could draw me up some blue prints or even just tell me the dimensions to make it I would really apprciate it.

Also it needs to have a port. Sealed boxes are not recommended for this sub. (Over heating?)

Thanks in advance.

First of all, it would be nice to know what sub you're talking about. Besides that, most likely those measurements I suppose are for a 10" or maybe even a 12", therefore you would need to add the subwoofers displacement area to that total box size. For example lets say its a 12" a good parameter is .2, so then the box would be 1.0+.2=1.2, and then you would need to add the port displacement, which in this case is 4"x7.25"=.05 (i suppose you meant a 4" round port).
Now that will bring our total to 1.0+0.2+0.05= (1.25 cubic feet) internally, this of course is without bracing and corners.

So lets just say you need measurements for "THAT" box...it could be 14.5x14.5x14.5 (external measurements),so you have an internal measur of 13x13x13=1.27, made with 3/4" mdf.

If you need any more help just give a holler..

Do these also factor into the equation?

And yes a 4" round port is correct.

The placement of the port varies depending upon what you want the enclosure for. Is it for competing, or just every day use. Also the major issue upon port and sub placement is the vehicle. Depending on what car it is I might be able to give you its recommended placements, but the best way to know is with a TL Sensor, with which you would know by seeing your gains and drops with various positions.
What car is this going into?

Its going into a 1996 Jetta trunk (not hatchback) and ya I am trying to build a box for competeing. So if you have a better idea on size that I will get a better low then you can throw it at me. Just the book says "Uptimum Enclosures" so I really have no idea much about boxes and such but I would like to compete someday. And this is the box Im gonna try it with lol. So like I said if you have better dimensions Im willing to listen and fallow your directions.

Don't build an aeroport box for a trunk car if its going to be used for spl. For daily then its ok i guess. Your best bet would be building a slot port box for the jetta with the port firing to the driver's side.
