i hope you're building them for a home system because you'd need a schoolbus or extreme setup to build a nice horn or bandpass.
I just built a 6th order for a single 15 in my explorer and its 41 X 25 3/4 X 17 1/2 external. Quite large. And I could have gone a lot larger
also the best design software is the termlab

8th order can be small too, and i have seen 160+ db from a 8th order with a 5.25 inch speaker. i do want to use it to create a sub box for my computer toom, i figure if its done well enough i can replace the 8 in my z2200 speakers with a 10 inch kicker cvr.

can i do a sub box (8th order) so a horn will this work ?
There are three separate enclosures: V1, V2 and V3. The subs are mounted on the wall separating V2 and V1, firing into V1. The first port P1, couples enclosure V1 and V3 cutting through V2. Port P2 fires from V2 into V3. Port P3 fires from V3 to the outside world.
Volume V1: .74 cubic feet
Volume V2: 2.78 cubic feet
Volume V3: 5.92 cubic feet
Port P1: 71.57Hz - 6.00 inches / 4 inch diameter
Port P2: 19Hz - 16.78 inches / 3 inch diameter
Port P3: 36.87Hz - 1.28 inches / 4 inch diameter
would it work ?

an 8th order is used for when you have minimal space between the sub and the listner, but yet you have a large room. idn if that makes sence. but the waves and in phase when they come out of the last ports.
i would say increase v2 and shrink v3
maby 3.5 for v2 and 3 for v3. that would be my suggestion
but this is based on nothing at all.
my name is dr. angus by the way.
