Downfiring sub

I'm about to attempt making a new single sealed box for my ext cab GM truck. Like said, I'm going to give a downfiring sub a shot. My question is, how much space away from the floor should the sub be once installed? Is there a set distance which works best? Or just give it 1" to 2" of space?
I'll be trying two different 10" speakers (seperately and one at a time), a MTX TC510 and a Pioneer TS-W251R if that makes any difference? Looking for SQ in as little space as possible.

That's entirely up to you and your ears.
I think its the best for SQ but many will disagree. Like I said, its more of a personal preference thing.

That, I do not know striker? I'm experimenting (and have been for the past couple of weeks). This is what I've been using as of late, right now it is facing the rear passenger door. I was thinking down firing in that exact spot on the floor...
BUT, I'm also contemplating (and this is what I actually want), having the sub down firing right on the hump in the floor. I could do it easily with an 8", but I have 2 nice 10's to play with right now. Again, I will end up only using one of them. It seems to be an impossible fit at the moment though, unless...I move the center console ahead an inch.
Under the rear seat is out of the question as it's kinda like my junk drawer/toolbox area.
I'm also debating facing the sub frontwards or probaly rearwards mounted on the hump. I've measured out for a box as 21 x 12 x 8 1/2
Suggestions?

another good way for SQ is facing upwards and slightly towards the back window..

Right on! Thanks mustaine, I appreciate it. Right now, I can't really give you an 'accurate' measurement, other than what I just posted. It's that damn center console that's inhibiting my plans...I've also though of pulling it and building a console with the sub enclosed inside it.
I do like your thought of angling it rearwards though.
