gaining dB in SPL box tips?

for the inside of my box i know its best to fiberglass it sand it smooth and wax it for optiumum air resistance, but has anyone ever tried using a thin coat of tar. ot would seal it up good and the rubbery coat would add sound deadening on the box. wondering if this would add and dB on the meter any one experiment with it before?

smoothing the box will only gain u so much

try different things inside of a box - angels, dividers, tubes, etc.

I was wondering that too, i was thinking of using rubberized undercoating inside my trunk and on the outside of my box? So i have the same question.
