grills/covers

New to forums.
Got a question. I'm planning out a build for my wife's chevy spark. Looked around and only found some people with weak sauce all in ones.

Nothing extravagant just a single driver. But I'm not willing to sacrafice any storage space. So my plan is to use the spare tire well and put in a false floor then recarpet and tada!. But my issue is what to do for an opening. My current idea is to do one inch vents across the top then carpet over it all so I don't have to worry about things falling into the cone. I've attached a pic of what I'm thinking. Will that work? Will it sound like crap. I have a 12w0v2 laying in a box not being used and I'm going to drive it with a cheapo 400watt amp. Yes yes its a crap setup but not as crap as the stock radio. This is a low budget build. Just want to add some decent bass to this little ride. I know the enclosure is under sized its just that I don't want to buy another sub. But I just might be willing to get a 10 instead. Idk will and correctly enclosed 10 be better than an underdriven small enclosed 12?

That should work well, you can also use expanded steel from home depot & cover it with acoustically transparent material.
