Have a look at this sub box build

Hi again, can someone double check this sub box build.

Will be putting a 10" type-r in it @ 500w rms.

Dimensions: 17.25" Deep X 14.5" High X 12.5" Wide = 1.3cuft
Using 3/4" MDF.

The size of the port I have worked out will be 9.76" long and 3" in diameter.

Now what I need help on is the port. I used a box calculator online for the port measurement. It needed a tuning variable to give me an answer so I used 35Hz. I'm not sure if that was the way to go or not so I need some direction on this if anyone can take a stab at it. I have 3" diameter pipe to use and it's like 35ft long so what size port would be ideal for this box? I would prefer using two shorter ports as apposed to one longer one not sure if that make any difference in the acoustics?

If you have any other suggestions please let me hear them!

Well finally someone from sudbury!!! lol i can help you out with a nice box for your sub. Are you sure you want a round port and not rather a slot port.

Well seems like all I ever see is slot port. I have a prefab right now with a slot port even. I've always liked a round port for aesthetics really, which was why I considered building my own box in the first place.

I did put Sudbury but I'm from the Valley lol.

Same thing. You will get better output from a smaller box with a proper sized slot port then a round port. If you want a round port or 2 round ports let me know and i will design something up for you.

Well if you can build me something with great output from my setup I will definitely put it to good use. Going by my measurements in the first post I would have been stretching the 17.25" from the front of the trunk to the back and installing the sub and ports on the middle sized cut (height piece), port being on the bottom. Leaving the smallest measurement being used as the width; if you can put that into perspective.

So really this box was going to split my trunk down the middle, that way if I ever put anything back there it would not slide, side to side down the road. The sub would also be left unobstructed which seemed ideal.

If it matters any while you design the sub is 4ohm DVC hooked to an mrd-500 mono block.

thanks!

So you want the box to fit half of your trunk and have the ports coming out the top??? or you want both sub and port facing the same direction. Also if you are able to give me the max dimensions you are willing to give up i will work with that.

I can give up 17.5" in length, 15" in height and 12.75" in width.

I would like the sub and port to be on the smallest side with port being on the bottom. If you have a look at the link at the bottom of this post that's my trunk with my current setup. The box I hope to build will be turned 90 degrees from that position with sub and port facing the same way(back of the car).

Anyone else have any suggestions with the measurements I have? LOWTONEZ may be a bit busy and I would like to get this project built tomorrow.

with your given dimensions, your going to have to give up a bit more space.

if you make an enclosure that is 17.5"D x 15"H x 15"W after port and sub displacment your looking at around 1.4 cubic feet with a 3" aeroport at a length of 10.5" that will give you a tuning around 36hz

I can fit that box in my setup. Would it be better to go with an aeroport or a slotted one for this box? I dont have the tools to flare the ends or anything either. As well what would be the difference running this sub at 1.4cf which I currently do now in my prefab and would be if I built this box, as apposed to the 1cf that the spec sheet recommends?
