Oh and Jalat would it make a difference if the 10.5" long port was cut in half and used as two instead of one? Or does that just screw the tuning up?

Well I spent the last two afternoons building my box. I went with Jalat's dimensions of 17.5 x 15 x 15 with a slot port. If all went well it should be tuned at 36Hz or so at 1.35cuft. For my first box I must say I'm quite happy with it. I gave it a listen except the top wasnt sealed yet so I got a bit of low's and lots of hisses lol. But I did end up sealing it after the pre-drill and test fit and now it's just waiting to dry. should be good in 15 hours from now. Once I'm all settled in school again I hope to carpet the box and my amp rack too, just to hide all the screws. I'll get some pictures of the build up this weekend sometime.

Haha no no, I adjusted the port accordingly. I have 27.25" total of port length at about 1.5" wide give or take .2". I'll let you know how it sounds tomorrow.

Well I finally found some time to upload a few finished pictures of my box. I'll put up a few of the one's I took with the top off up tomorrow if I have time at school. Overall I'm really happy with it. Compared to my prefab one, this box hit's way harder with a third less power. It seems way louder too. I can't wait to go out and buy a second identical 10" sub and make a double enclosure. Once I'm in my school routine I'll be putting some felt/carpet on my box and amp rack you see behind it to finish off the look. As always this is a work in progress and I'm enjoying all time spent on it. Let me know what you think.

Nice! What sort of music do you listen to? Do you notice a sound quality difference with the new box?

I wish I had the gumption/tools/patience (one day, maybe) to build a box for myself. I have the exact same amp/sub on the way, and I've purchased a prefab box from QLogic (1.1cu ft, slot port tuned to 38Hz).

Do you worry about unloading and over-excursion? The subsonic filter on that amp is 15Hz, which is much lower than your tuning frequency.

I'm mostly a rock guy. I just like loud guitar personally, and the 10" was just enough filler for the bottom end. Then when I just want everything to shake in the car it'll put out the low's just fine too when playing some heavy bass tracks or the synthesized from rap tunes as well.

Took me two days to finish this box because I let the silicone dry the first night before I installed the sub & secured the top plate. This was my first box too so I was happy with the outcome. I kinda already want to go out and buy a second sub just so I can build another box for myself.

I also bought a prefab box when i bought my gear in May, and I was quite happy with it, but I didn't know better. It was a bassworx box with 1.4cuft with a 40Hz tune, ported. Which now that I know the difference is much too high of a tune for what I wanted it for.

This box is 1.35cuft at 36Hz and it hits dam harder than my first box, at a third less of the gain on the amp and the bass eq at -2 compared to the 0db rating I was using with the prefab from the HU. SQ wise it's a definite improvement.

I've been able to get some nice excursion from this sub too. But nothing out of the ordinary in terms of unloading or over-excursion or even burnt voice coils. It'll play hard for 1hr20min no problem on the way to my camp. I dont have any vids of my new box yet but if you wanted to have a look at what it was playing in my prefab a month ago here's a link to my youtube page. When I make a vid of my new box I'll be sure to play some actual music tracks and not just some bass test stuff.

Thanks for the info, I guess it's not as much of a concern as I guessed. That cone sure moves, eh?

Sounds like building boxes is addictive, I'm glad I stayed away!

It's not that it's addictive, it's just that the very little wood working I do I enjoy doing. Then there's always eh being able to showoff to your friends that you built a better box than them which is reason two for this project.
