For HT i would recommend tuning to near 20-25 hz and putting them in larger boxes. Thats the problem with larger woofers in HT

So I've been slowly working away on my boxes. All the edges are Oak trim so its been a slow process. The new Kickers arrived yesterday, so now i need to get it together. I'm off to the new Lowe's to get some hardware and my wife's coming with me to pick out Grill material and polyfill stuffing.
If the link works, here's some pics of it going together.

That's the problem with HT subs.....because you are trying to reproduce sound effects with very low fundamentals instead of music, you have to go low. In your car you have cabin gain to help out at the bottom end, and even tho putting the HT box in a corner helps the same way, it's the source material that causes the problems.

Remember when the first Jurassic Park flic came out? Those footsteps by the T-Rex when he was coming to eat the lawyer were 10hz tones with a few harmonics thrown in for good measure......if your sub is tuned too high above that, you may see flying woofer syndrome......

A few years ago the company I worked for at the time was distributing the upgraded speaker systems for Imax theatres all over Canada. Imagine my surprise to see the sub enclosures were all sealed....not a port to be found....

I asked one of the engineers why and he said they couldn't find drivers that could be ported low enough, so they just made them sealed and doubled the amplifier power instead.....

Judging from the pics you won't be able to have the subs facing forward and the ports at the walls.....It will help if you fire the subs at the seating area and the ports at the floor, elevating the bottoms off the floor about 3-4" should work fine.......

HTH

Success!!

I finally got the boxes painted and the Kickers installed. I hooked them up to try them out before re-arranging all the furiture and everything.
The good news is the old Pioneer Elite amplifier works just fine at 2 ohms per channel. It gets warm, fan comes on and it seems fine.
I hate to admit it, but i may have overdone it. Maybe two 15's is a little overkill
Still need to make grills for them. The silver Kickers in the gloss black boxes stand out like a sore thumb. Now i need a shelf for the center speaker, some felt for the towers that are going to sit on top of the subs. And we need some foam mat to stop the mug collection from ratteling of the shelf!
I'll post some pics when i get to it.

Doesn't look like that will be a problem.....and watching your neighbors running to their front doors to see the deranged teenager who's speeding down the street could have some entertainment value as well......
