Metal boxes?
No I wasn't looking for a heavy box, I just thought it may have been a lighter box, All around I prefer a skin colored box myself, but wood is a close second!! lol. This was just a toying thought to use metal, I actually thought Alum, would be almost better to use,

if you were to make a box out of SS it would cost you a fortune $$$$$ aluminum is no where near strong enough to make a box, it would look like a baloon when blowing it up, once the bass hits, porting a metal box would be very easy just plasma out your port in the box, make a port, slide in, if it works good weld it in place, oh and if you used 10awg black steel it would not flex at all and there would be no tinny(sp) noise either becasue of how thick and strong the metal is, the only downfall to this whole topic is that it would weigh waaay too much
Steel plate and wood are your friends.
A steel box wouldn`t sound good at all unless you deaden the inside, then it sounds all right. I have tested the difference in pure wood and steel wood combos in spl, as well as crete. I wouldn`t use 10ga for an spl box imo, 1/4 or more. If i had the money i would love to try a S.S. box, mirror finish

not being rude just saying
I built a box out of Aluminum for a JBL GTI sub
a few years back....
and we also took a chunk of 10" natural gas line pipe
and made a steel Bazooka Bass tube...
I also seen some 15" subs mounted in Galvanized
garbage cans...the most twanky tinny crinkly sounding
bass I have ever heard
a box made out of doubled up MDF has better SQ...
the steel enclosure has TERRIBLE ECHOING characteristics
inside....the bass was very dirty sounding....
the MDF tends to absorb the bad inner acoustics between
the notes..cleaner sound
