Noob at IB setup, planning for my Saturn
Hi guys,
Im planning on doing an IB setup in my Saturn. For space reasons, and also the sheer ability to have a subwoofer that blends well, considering I do not have a time alignment deck, seperate crossovers, phase etc. All the stock subs on the rear deck in most expensive cars sound great so I figure if this turns out half as good ill be happy.
Im planning on running the sub not in the rear deck, but behind the fold down rear seats. I was going to make like an MDF board that goes across that opening and then seal it with some gasket maker or something, then bolt it. I still havent got a sub, but the amp is an Mr450 Alpine. I realize power handling is reduced considerably, so im looking at powering 2 12's with this setup, or even 2 10's ( Im running 1 10 sealed now in my old car ). Can anyone please give me some tips on how to do this install right? I mean I do not need crazy SQ, but if there are simple tips that are maybe time consuming and cheap I will get them done as I have the summer off and have spare time.
Thank you for looking!
btw its a 97 Saturn SC2

The rear deck will need some attention; I would definetely remove the rear speakers and seal their holes with blocks of wood and expanding foam or such. There's also the areas around the wheel wells that'll need sealing from what I remember. I've had all 3 models of S-series', but a coupe was my first one so I don't remember its shape that well lol.
I'd definetely go with a pair of 12's as well.
Just look for a sub with a Qts between 0.5 and 0.9 and you're good.

As Viperoni noted, the key is sealing sufficiently to keep the front and back waves separate.
I did a single 12" IB on the rear deck last year. Here is a summary of the process I used.

The rear deck worked well for me because I wanted to use the back of my rear seat to mount the rest of the audio gear.
